At 3:40 the building you see on the right as collapsed since then due to the building inspectors negligence and the owners reluctance to actually fix the wall that was bowing out so much we were able to drop a flashlight in between the floor and wall.

I grew up in Antigo in the 80s and 90s...it was a GREAT town for a kid to grow up in back then. I haven't been back in over 20 years...not sure how much has changed.

My girlfriend was a teacher here for a year and made her reconsider teaching as a whole. Police are constantly at the school due to weapons, drugs, and general junk. On of her coworkers would touch their students (rubbing their shoulders and back rubs) also took a nap while one of her students was OD'ing. And get this, that teacher STILL WORKS THERE. A car crashed into the side of my girlfriend's apartment while running from the cops. People broke into the apartment to pull the fire alarm and set off the extinguishers. There was an active crack den in the basement that people would break into to get their stash after they were arrested. So many buildings/houses look abandoned but are actually active. Oh and the fire department takes 30 mins to respond when the station is like two blocks away. Overall the school system is going down the drain, crime is stupid high for such a small place, and it's a ghost town for stores. The only reason why I think it's still around is because it's one of the last big towns/cities as you're heading north. Oh and as a side note the community is super toxic when it comes to trying to control the school/police

Oh and I just remembered this as I was watching the video. Businesses HATE their customers. Antigo bakery makes great products and has good prices BUT if you're not a customer of theirs and they find you parked in their parking lot they'll key your car.

Go down Memorial Drive in Racine. Lock your doors. Antigo is just boring. I would imagine there isn't a lot of work but its a nice boring town. Worst is the Northside of Milwaukee, 2nd is Racine and then Kenosha. I hear Beloit is bad as well.

yea, the reason Antigo has such a bad rep is because of the ridiculous drug problem. That town has been a heroin hot spot for decades, way before it was a national epidemic. Even the high school football coach got caught selling like 5 lbs of weed. It was on CNN.

This town used to be nice. But Democrat rule has this town gone down hill. The school is ranked one of the worst in Wisconsin. The down town is mostly empty buildings. And if a business wants to open and pay real wages the city councel will not let them. They need people to work for low wages picking potatoes so they can't allow good paying jobs. Also the county gets very little money from the state. Every county around it is a lot nicer because they get more money. Most of our roads are falling apart. So what does the City Councel want to do. They want to open up more low income housing. Which we don't need. They will bring them from other places. Some company buys the land and builds them. Antigo gets some points with the state. What it's good for I don't know. And then to fill them they bring people form the cities. And then our crime goes up. You don't think they bring in good people do you. Good people don't need to move. And then our county has to increase our taxes to pay for all the crap for people on drugs and alchol and programs for the needy. See I'm a tax payer in this county. I don't live in Antigo. And what they do raises my taxes. Although they will argue that fact. But I know people on the county board. And they will tell you what Antigo does effects the whole county. They are trying to stop them. But the last county board already approved this crap. Needless to say we voted them out. But we have no say so on Antigo. The slum.

The American car companies failure (of quality) and the off shoring of industry, and the outsourcing of jobs has caused the decay of many of America's small towns. You might want to visit the depressed coal mining towns of Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky,some of the poorest regions of the country Harlan,Pikeville Kentucky,Logan,Welch,Matewan West Virginia some of these areas lost around 80 of their population,they're just waiting for coal to come back but the people are super friendly

We had relatives in Antigo--it was a railroad town that probably peaked about 1950. I believe population was near 10,000 at most and is 8,000 or so now. Stores have moved to the outskirts of town--not unusual--and winters are cold and long. Sometimes the creek dividing the town would flood, separating the east side from the downtown stores when we were kids. Have not been there since 2017 and it seemed pretty quiet in early February--but 18 inches of snow came along a week later. Sorry we missed that...

What an unfair, bias, negative assessment of a nice little northern Wisconsin town. These two drove into Antigo negative and left negative 10 minutes later. They didn't talk to a single person, didn't take time to learn the history of Antigo or to assess the quality of life that folks in small northern Wisconsin towns get to experience. They certainly didn't get to experience the hunting, fishing, hiking and nature Antigo has to offer. At it's peak, Antigo had 9600 people and in 2020 had fallen to 8100 people. I think that's pretty commendable when so many towns are losing people to the bigger metro areas. I grew up in a much smaller town to the northeast of Antigo, and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. Great education, great people, great outdoors, great childhood. These two commentators completely overlook why people stay in towns like Antigo. The quality of life and to get away from the big city. I remember when Antigo and Rhinelander were go to towns and I'm still fond of both of them. I always think of Antigo as the doorway to the northwoods, and begin to feel "back home" when I go thru Antigo.

I drive through Antigo all the time on my trip from Eagle River to visit my Parents in Oshkosh. All the dilapidated houses along US 45 through town gives a bad impression of the town. At one time they were beautiful houses. Just some low cost loans might make the city more inviting, and bring in business and tourist.

I'm originally from Massachusetts and have only lived here since '87 and yes it looks like not a whole lot of excitement here and a little boring at times. Years ago, 5th Avenue used to have a lot more businesses downtown though and was busier, now more businesses are on the North end of Antigo and some progress is being made to try and revitalize the downtown area. The old Chicago & Northwestern Railroad once ran through here as well. I've heard over the years since we've been here, about how many industries that wanted to locate here years ago and ran into resistance from the potato farmers, city and county. Just think of the jobs and opportunities that those places could have created over time if they would've only gotten the approval to build here instead of someplace else and how much more prosperous and better off this community would be today. I would imagine though that this isn't the only small town or city in America that this has happened to and to think that a small group of individuals are able to decide a city or town's future for better or for worse and without ever asking the community as a whole for input is just not right.
