Shaving before applying underarm antiperspirants can increase aluminum absorption. Could this explain the greater number of tumors and the disproportionate incidence of breast cancer in the upper outer quadrant of the breast near the armpit?

Well, this is terrifying. As if women don't have enough to worry about with looking good during the humid summer, not stinking (I sweat a LOT), not having excess body hair, and now the potential for breast cancer?! Come on!

S. Rose don't worry! you can make your own deo at home. there are a lot of videos you can look up on KZbin on DIY deo. i mix 5 tablespoon coconut oil, 4 tablespoon corn starch, 3 or 4 tablespoon baking powder. Melt in microwave, mix and let it harden. then take and smear it on your armpit and to be honest for me it works better than the deo in stores. It's also cheaper. You do still sweat, and I sweat also a lot and train. But the most important for me is not to smell Haha.

"Ironically, anti-perspirant's can make us stink worse, because they increase the types of bacteria that cause body odor. It's like the story with antidepressant drugs. How they can actually make you more depressed in the long run. The more we use anti-perspirants, the more we may need them-awfully convenient for $1 billion industry." -Dr. Michael Greger

I think showering too much causes us to smell more also, and it becomes a vicious cycle. You have to keep showering to get rid of the smells that are caused because you showered too much. But when you start showering less, after an initial spike in odor, you won't smell, except for maybe a normal body odor. But most people tend to think that any body odor is bad and undesirable. There's a difference between the natural human smell-the natural human pheromones-and BO! The average person doesn't make a distinction between different body odors. To the average person any smell coming from the human body, other than the smell of scented soap, is considered bad.

Of course, most people also don't interpret 'do not use on broken skin' to mean 'do not use on shaved skin'. Most people I have known, have always interpreted 'broken skin' to mean skin that was actually cut, or punctured, and/or bleeding.

true, although what most people use is deodorant, which most contain aluminium. i my country, I had to go to the pharmacy to get antitransirant. had BIG sweating issues. deodorants stopped working, like that, all a once without giving me any heads up. so, I had to work without it. no eating animal products, aswell as avoiding coffee, alcohol and onions tend to help not smelling bad. now, I hardly ever get bad smelling/abundant sweat.

It's nice to see other women saying they don't shave either, it's such a silly custom. I knew deodorants were nasty but did use them when I was young. Now I scrub before I go out around other people. Sometimes I use magnesium oil, other times an alcohol and essential oil mixture diluted with water. Most days I use nothing.

My bulletproof home deo: 1. after bath, apply apple cider vinegar to cotton pad and rub under pits. Will BURN if recently shaved (I've gotten used to it). 2. after acv is dry, apply VERY thin layer of coconut oil, your pits shouldn't feel oily (I usually apply body lotion right after this step) 3. small pinch of baking soda rubbed over fingertips and applied to underarms ACV kills odor causing bacteria. coconut oil is antibacterial, but also serves to moisturize and create a thin 'barrier'. baking soda keeps you dry. Expensive to start, BUT these ingredients last forever. Expect a period of detoxing during the first 2-4 weeks. Also if worried about something going wrong, try it out when you don't have to go anywhere (; Keep tiny vial of baking soda and scrubbing rag on hand if worried for stinky emergency.

Hi! I've been successful with homemade deodorant cream of 2 parts cornstarch, 1 part baking soda, 1 part coconut oil and a few drops of essential oil (currently using sweet orange) to scent. It works for me. I also keep a travel size in a tiny container that had a sample of face cream from my local co-op. No "waxy" build up like commercial products, no silver sparkles on the armpit area of my shirts and dresses, and no worries when watching this video. Thanks Dr. G!

@littlesometin

@johnlord8337

Issue is shaving the pits, cutting the skin, and then applying the western (American) aluminum deodorants and anti-perspirants. Europeans are less pit-shaving and all the white man body hygiene products (ala au natural). If the western female is MORE susceptible to aluminum-induced breast cancer, then this needs to be known. If this can be shown, then there should be a huge female and medical repercussion against such aluminum products.

+Maggie Dentakos Did you know that organic uses pesticides too? Did you know that those organic pesticides are often a lot more toxic than conventional pesticides/herbicides? In the case of a popular organic pesticide, rotenone, and a conventional herbicide, glyphosate, rotenone is 200 times more toxic than glyphosate. Organic pesticides persist in the environment longer, and are more toxic to wildlife. More land is needed for organic crops, and less food is yielded from them than GMO crops. There is as much evidence showing that GMOs are safe as there is showing that humans are causing climate change.

You can use arrowroot powder as well. Here's a copy/paste of my previous comment. Make your own. It's so much cheaper (when you do the math of buying whole ingredients) and you know what's in it. There's lots of recipes out there - I make a variation of WellnessMama's recipe: wellnessmama.com/1523/natural-deodorant/ Start with a small amount of baking soda in your homemade deodorant; make sure you're not sensitive to it. Use essential oils like tea tree and lavender. Coconut oil, shea butter and arrowroot powder/cornstarch for the base. I've been using this for the past 3 years and works amazingly.

A lot of those "natural" crystal deodorants are made from salts of aluminum, which is why they work.

Those are the ones you should get. People just need to be aware and not assume they are free of aluminum unless the label states they are.

I'm often around a lot of Indians and Africans who don't ever use any type of deodorant, yet you can clearly smell them from across a room. Is being abstinent really a better option than just using aluminum free deodorants?

HAS ANYONE TRIED MILK OF MAGNESIA? True about antiperspirant, bacteria, needing more to rid smell. I stopped using antiperspirant and it took a while however no smell. When I exercise and sweat, doesn't smell bad. Good diet lifestyle helps what smell comes through pores too. I've had laser hair removal, haven't shaved my underarms in years. My armpits are like a hairless Chihuahua... that and other parts lol
