I have two queen anne style arm chairs that I inherited from my mom and she purchased them from an English friend in 1965 or so. I really have not seen the exact style in any pictures . They do look hand carved because the lines and comparisons are not exact. I would love to get more information about them.

This site just popped up on my computer and I had great hopes for it, but the pictures shown usually had nothing to do with the description making it quite confusing. I have a lot of antiques including chairs (2 of which I just did a light restoration on) and would like an idea as to value. The chairs are a matched pair of Charles Stickley rockers in oak with leather seats.

Very informative I have a Flint and Horner cane Barrel chair needs cane repair wonder if it's worth it .Beautifully carved
@antiquefurnitureguide13453 жыл бұрын
Hi Sharon! Caning can certainly be an expensive repair to take on... In our area, caning by hand usually is priced per hole so can really add up fast. However, Flint and Horner is a nice brand and if you love the chair, we always say it's worth it! Thanks for watching! :)

I have several pieces of furniture that my parents purchased in an auction with the house they purchased in Pa over 50 years ago. The dining room set does have a paper tag under the table that when we researched the company name found out the company was sold to another company before the civil war. Can you suggest any books that might help me date this furniture? I also have 4 tables and a chair they purchased that I would like to know what type they are. I love antiques but don't know much about the different period.
@antiquefurnitureguide13452 жыл бұрын
HI Loretta! I am sorry for the late reply. It sounds like you have some great pieces to research. I think "The Field Guide to American Antique Furniture" is a great starter book. I also have another great book resource that I found at Wonder Books, but I can't quite remember the title. I am away from home until Wednesday but I will get it to you when we return. It is a great resource because it is filled with pictures, so it really helps define different styles and movements... Thank you for commenting and I will be in touch soon. Best, Rachel

Help! I just purchased a gorgeous chair with intricately carved cherubs, a large, heavy medallion, swooping, low wood arms, upholstered seat, original toed springs, large claw feet in front, Queen Anne legs, bowed front, and wood fiddle back. I can’t seem to date it at all! Victorian? Georgian? Help!
@TheOnlyHatchet101 Жыл бұрын
Sounds interesting, a picture or two would tell a lot. Additionally, the type of wood, and or woods, that it is made of. It generally sounds Victorian, but I might be able to attribute it for you.

I have six Jacobean dining room chairs that go with its matching dining room table and matching buffet. They're stunning. I believe i am missing the hutch to complete the entire set. My dining chairs all appear to be hand carved but they syo not have the original fabric on the seats.

Hi I have a chair which has ball and claw feet I hereited it does anyone know if its worth anyone
@antiquefurnitureguide13453 жыл бұрын
Hi Kerry. An antique chair with ball and claw feet could be worth a few hundred dollars, or it could be much less... or much more! It really depends on the age, style, maker and condition. You may want to bring a photo to an auctioneer or appraiser to get an idea. Thanks for watching!

Appraisal of Edwardian ladies chair
@antiquefurnitureguide13452 жыл бұрын
Hi Janet! We see dainty Edwardian chairs go from anywhere from $100 to $600 on average. It really depends on the condition of both the frame, and the upholstery. Also the quality of any carvings or inlay. Thank you for watching!

Screws were in use well before the 19th century....
@antiquefurnitureguide13452 жыл бұрын
True! They were used even in ancient Rome. But I think the point we were trying to make is that most people can tell a modern screw from a very old one. Sorry for the confusion! Thanks Rusty!
