Your videos are never too long or boring. Your shop tips are always useful. Doesn't matter if they are repeated from earlier videos. Refreshers are a good idea. As for the couple you're refurbishing the sled for, they still look happy and great as on their wedding day. Good marriage.

Eileen is just glowing thinking of all the good times her grandmother and mother had on this sled growing up. Most of us had the Flexible Flyer as kids. Although there was an “honest to goodness” grass covered hill within walking distance, our preferred places were unpaved streets. The best one, which was also the most dangerous ended abruptly at Md Route 2 (Ritchie Hwy) the main route from Baltimore to Annapolis. Thank God it was steerable. Ahhh good times.😂

Nice work, john. Back in the 1970s, I found some broken, flexible flier sleds, and my brother and I cobbled some new wooden planks and supports to get them useable again. I remember my Dad asking, "Where did all my wood and small nuts & bolts go?" Thanks for the good memories.😃👍🏻🇺🇲

I had one of those sleds and considering where I live, I got to use it maybe every 3 years. I remember a bunch of us kids using an old car hood from a junkyard once after a really good snow. That didn't end well. No steering, so we all ended up in a shallow canal. It was fun anyway. LOL Thanks.

This project will be a classic! Great story and beautiful remembrance of her mother. Beautiful couple! You didn't look so bad yourself. lol I'm cheering hard for this project. My father bought two of the longer model of Flexible Flyer sleds in the late 60's for Christmas at the local, old fashioned hardware store for my sister and I. We had a very long, gently sloping snow track behind our house into the fields. Many hours were spent on those great sleds after school in the winter. I remember just staring at those sleds when we would take a rest break; the wood, the runners, the graphics, all the pieces parts... They were passed on to our 4 younger brothers and survived for many years.

While growing up in rural Kansas, I had a sled like this - I think it was a Flexible-Flyer probably made in the 1950s. We had a half-acre lot on a steep hill. My neighborhood friends and I would take turns - the alternative “sled” was a cardboard box - climb to the top, and race down. Usually we wouldn’t stop in time, and shoot out onto the street, which, luckily, my mom never spotted. The great thing about a Flexible-Flyer is it works great on packed snow, which was usually the state of the hill. Great memories!

Glad you started on this one. I have one from the 1970s that just needs to be refinnished as well as an Americanized Scandinavian kicksled. The sled is a small one and the kicksled was made with a flexible flyer runners that you can't really stand on to kick but it is an excellent push sled for a kid. I call it a snow stroller. I need to get these done as I have two wagons to do in the summer. Anyway I have been using the excuse of waiting for you so I can get some tips. A suggestion: Your probably know this already. TSP (trisodium-phosphate) should remove the crackling of the finish on the backside and leave the finish and the paint. I dont mind multiple part episodes. As for all the projects, if only I could get half of mine done.... The markings on the bottom of the sled reminded me of a story of my grandfather, over here every body marked their tools with a certain color of paint, he used blue, mostly so they could'nt get lost after borrowing them out. However he had borrowers that would paint their own color over his the first night they borrowed it! His grandfather had a beter solution, he had a branding iron and marked his tools with that. The word on the street was that the high quality sled runners were only able to be rolled in Johnstown, PA ( at least that is what my bullshit brother-in-law used to say once he had a few boilermakers under his belt). Oh yeah, Dickens (the writer) said the hills were so steep, that the sun raised @ 10 am and was gone by 2. The hills made for hellishly good sledding for us when we were kids . . . at least before the ash trucks did their thing.
