I really love these antique dolls, they are so precious. I appreciate your knowledge on this subject, it is so interesting to learn how to date the dolls. Do you have any Shirley Temple dolls, I believe the Ideal company made them. As a child, I was an avid lover of Barbie (late 1960s twist and turn) and Dawn dolls. Chrissy (hair grew) and generic large dolls that were walkers were also among my many many dolls.

Thanks Sadie. I never had a Shirley Temple doll. The earlier ones were made out of composition and then later versions were made out of vinyl. If I were ever to get one, I would want the early composition version. They are hard to get in good condition and usually are missing their original clothes or the face is crazed and has cracks or the eyes get cloudy. Composition dolls don't last very long and eventually it will be harder and harder to find them in good condition. Humidity and constant weather changes, end up cracking the composition. That is so sad. Would you believe I never had a Barbie doll?! When I was a kid I hated dolls, lol.

I had some in the past, but sold them all on Etsy. The only ones I have now are the original antique Kestner dolls.

I have a antique German china doll with cloth hands and boots. What year roughly would you say this doll is from?

I couldn't tell you without seeing it. They were made from mostly between the 1850s-1930s so they vary by decade. There are also a lot of reproductions out there that trick people into thinking they are antique when they are not.
