Great discussion. Yeah, antique shops are mostly overly priced. Last Friday, I went to the Livingston Antique shop. Each vendor had different prices. One vendor, I found a NM OG of Bob Dylan’s “Blood on the Tracks” for $11. But a lot of the vendors had really high prices for VG albums. Even though there was more albums than ever, I couldn’t find much that I was interested in. I’m also dealing with a lack of space these days. Sound familiar Steve?? With the new albums, yeah, the prices are getting crazy. As Steve stated, over in Europe the prices are still lower. Or some indie labels here in the states keep them lower as well. Shame on Billy Strings for selling a double album for $50. Sad….

Hi jim and steve it’s getting silly prices for vinyl and like you jim I’ve been finding those prices here in uk at antique and collectable shops. But doesn’t help here in uk that hmv and rough trade are selling records at ridiculous prices. I noticed from a video of a guy shopping in hmv inside a toys or us store in US they were charging 65 dollars and higher for new reissues of records that were half the price a few years ago . I can’t afford to keep paying those prices and won’t. Jim your a realistic record shop owner and come across as a fair person you’re a business but you want returning customers and that’s what you will get . I don’t buy records from Hmv and roughtade anymore in uk . Great video take care joe

you guys mentioned the hefty shipping costs for records from Europe. I looked at buying a record from Bandcamp seller in US. Record price 20 dollars. Shipping cost to Sweden 35 dollars….

Crazy what shipping costs isn’t it. It really prevents us from getting some great music especially when shipping costs more than the record album!

@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 yeah, Even at $22 with shipping to Europe, I take a loss on the actual shipping costs. It can be $26-$32. But I’m willing to do that to help someone get my record. Also, certain countries have taxes that the buyer has to pay when getting the package. The post office told me to tell the buyer in Germany that there will be an extra fee upon arrival. I sent a message to the person, and he said it was 15 Euros…. It’s crazy! I don’t know how some Japanese sellers on eBay are able to ship at $18. Maybe it’s because they have an account with the shipping company or something??

lol, too funny but not surprising at all. Wouldn’t you think that the owner would want to move some of his old stock?

Refuse to go to antique stores personally. I go to a few southwestern state stores and hope to find a nice collection drop off. Being a fan of 2000-2011 pop punk/emo, most records have only the original release run.

Wow Marc, that seems like a very hard genre to find music and collect. I salute you for your dedication and focus on that

Vinyl prices are outrageous. I worked for TransWorld Music for nearly six years in the 1990s, and the prices disgusted me - we were charging $16.99 for new CDS when Walmart had it for 11.99 and other competitors had it for $12 or $13 - it was ridiculous, and why the music market imploded in the late 1990s. The same thing is happening with vinyl, and they're going to kill the golden cash cow with the outrageous prices. And as I already told Steve on his Thursday video, I would never pay antique store prices for used vinyl - it's ridiculous. I only buy used from reputable sellers, be they on discogs, local, or online, And so far so good....have a great week, Gentlemen!

Gidday guys, great stuff, I have a local antique shop that has records on consignment and the seller prices them at the high end of discogs, they have been properly cleaned, records are great condition, sleeves are great and in outer clear sleeves, not cheap but for their quality good to buy - if I want to spend that kind of money to keep them but not for resale. The records that you sell Jim for the $40.00 price range are around the $60.00 US price range (about $90.00 Australian). The charity shops near me do get a few records which sell for around $2.00 so I am happy-ish. Thanks guys.

Wow, Ken, that is high but at least they take care of their records. Most I go to the records are looking to have a G rating. If they take care of their music and it’s in good shape I can handle that though that does seem awful expensive
