Antique Market in Cairo, The Diana Market | Egypt Vlog #168
Every week in Egypt's capital you can come to this open air market located in downtown Cairo and rifle through old books, old stamps, old coins, and a whole lot more! Walk with me and see what antiques line the streets of Egypt today.

Want to donate to the channel? You can buy me a shawarma! 😂 I recently discovered this website "buy me a coffee" exists and created an account, because, well, why not? I really just appreciate your support by watching my videos and I'm not asking you to donate, but, if you feel like it, now there's a place you can. Donations will probably just go to me making more street food videos. Here's the link: www.buymeacoff...
Welcome to the channel! My name's Gisselle, I'm a budget traveler and have been to 6 out of the 7 continents, visiting 20+ countries, living for some time in Sydney, Australia as well as in Saigon, Vietnam. I am currently based in Cairo, Egypt and exploring all this beautiful country has to offer, while visiting nearby countries as well. I am a lover of language and a culturally curious lady just making my way through life one day at a time. I live to learn, I love to travel and explore, try new things and meet interesting people anywhere and everywhere in the world. Come along with me as I solo travel the globe and discover fascinating new places, try delicious local food, meet lovely people, and share a moment in time on this beautiful planet, our Earth.

Egyptian people are so respectful, nice and pleasant It was very clear that they wanted to be asked permission before they get video taped . it was not difficult to understand. I love your videos by the way

Lol yah okay, my Egyptian friends all said they were acting rude for no reason. As have other Egyptians in the comments. I always try to be respectful and blur people out, turn the camera away if I notice they don't want to be filmed, etc. In the past I have thought people were telling me not to film then and then found out later they wanted to be filmed, interviewed, etc. But I said that already in the video. Do I need to repeat what I said in this video to you in the comments? And always respectful and pleasant, don't make me laugh 🤣 I can say MOST are, but to say ALL? I live here, do you? Because if you did, you wouldn't be saying that. It's a ridiculous comment to make, as if one nationality are always pleasant. It's a country full of millions of people and trust me honey, not everyone is pleasant all the time. Maybe you need to watch my video of getting robbed or groped.

Another fascinating video, Gisselle, bringing us the unique atmosphere of downtown Cairo. It's difficult for you to know who's going to be happy with being filmed, and who is not. But you handled the awkward moments very well, maintaining your cheerfulness and your respect for the shy vendors! And you're right - you cannot possibly know in advance who might be unhappy with being filmed, especially in a busy environment like that. I thought you might be tempted at 25:02 in the video by one of those purses/handbags at such a good price - 200 Egyptian / 4.10 USD / 3.70 Euros, but perhaps they were not too practical for everyday use! So thank you again for bringing us another aspect of life in the big city, where the overwhelming sense was of friendly and amusing characters who 'embraced' your interest and your good cheer! Well done! 😀William
@Gventures
@Gventures 3 ай бұрын
Thank you so much William! 🥰 You are certainly correct, it's not always easy to know who is willing to be on camera and who is not. But I do try my best to avoid filming those who do not want to be. That might mean blurring someone out that has informed be they do not want to be on film after the fact, or it may mean me turning the camera away from someone I notice while I am walking that doesn't want to be (I actually do this many times - I will see a woman I am approaching shield her face or turn away - and I realize she does not want to be filmed, so I turn the camera in the opposite direction, before she is ever "caught on camera"). But, of course, I don't manage to do that every time, as seen in this video 😅 I was tempted to buy the little purse! But, as a gift for a family member. I hate purses myself, for the exact reason you stated - impractical. I love my little backpacks 😅❤️ Thanks so much William 🥰🙏

BTW, there's another market, I think close to the citadel it's called Friday Market, and that one is a market for animals and pets. Anyway... your energy, attitude and Arabic are all so very great. There may be some antique shops around, and I have seen old items in local markets before, even in certain areas of the famous and touristic Khan el-Khalili market. I unfortunately don't have any recommendations, sorry 😕 I just never take tours myself, so I don't have any personal experience with a guide or company and therefore do not want to recommend any, since I know nothing about them. I don't give tours either, I answered more in-depth as to why in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHeopYyqptl6n6s But briefly explained, I am not licensed or legal to work as a tour guide, and it's also actually a lot of work! I applaud tour guides for their work, I showed a few people around a long time ago and found it exhausting 😅 If I ever did it in the future, I would charge way too much 🤣 So it's really better to just pay a local, Egyptian tour guide. That way you are helping support the locals, and they know more about the history anyway. Good luck, sorry I couldn't be of more help....

But message me while you're here and see if I am around. Much love! ❤

Thanks man! I can't say that I did see any gramophones, but I also wasn't really looking, and was distracted with filming the market as a whole/not filming some people. You should check it out, there's a lot of interesting stuff to see! I am almost never in Maadi (I think I've only been a handful of times in the last few years), but I appreciate the invitation! If I'm ever out that way I'll have to hit you up. Cheers! 🥂

@@Gventures you filmed swiftly over them; I had to pause to check them out closely. They weren’t patterned; the design looked hand painted which is a sign it’s antique. Obviously there’s the chance they could be modern replicas. I’m almost sure if they were not replicas they could be from the 18th century. Flip them over to check for the artisan’s stamp on the bottom YAY I’m so thrilled at the chance they could be antique. You mentioned that when you extend your visa you need to show that you exchanged dollars to Egyptian pounds. Can you do this at a money exchange(black market)or just at a bank? My wife is Egyptian and has a bank account in Egypt, will this make difference? Do I need to be added to her account?
@Gventures
@Gventures 3 ай бұрын
Black market? No, I never encourage that, not only because it's illegal, but because it just exacerbates the economic issues. Anyways, since they started to float the pound, it more accurately reflects the exchange rate. Before, I heard the exchange rates on the black market was like 70 to 1 USD, whereas at the bank it was like 30 to 1. Now, it's probably very similar at the banks or the black market ($1 = 49 EGP or something like that). You don't need an account at a bank to exchange USD to EGP at the bank either. And to extend your visa, you NEED the receipt from the bank showing that you exchanged money, and present that receipt at the immigration office.

Sometimes I feel some people in Egypt want to eat you alive, really annoying… Its amazing with their country open to the world and all this tourism they have, they seem as if they never seen foreigners before, although there are countries/communities that never seen foreigners before but they are not that hostile, Middle East is famous for that.

Middle East is famous for their hospitality, actually. If you ever meet someone who has traveled through many countries in the Middle East, they always talk about the hospitality. I think most people are generally friendly here too, though not everyone wants to be on camera. Hi, I’m Sohail Ahmad Khan from Pakistan, currently living in Dubai. I’m planning a trip to Egypt in October 2024 and will be staying at the Holy Sheet Hostel, as per your recommendation. I’ve downloaded the Uber app, but I noticed there’s no option for motorcycle rides. Could you please guide me on which app I should download to request a motorcycle ride in Egypt? Thanks!
@Gventures
@Gventures 3 ай бұрын
There will be a motorcycle (scooter) available once you arrive to Egypt, you will see it. Or you can even look that up now. Put your destination and departure location as somewhere in Cairo, and then you will see that Uber scooter is available. There are also similar apps like Indriver or Careem that offer motorcycle taxis, but Uber also 100% has it. Probably you are just seeing that Dubai does not offer scooters, but if Uber thinks you are in Egypt (so if you put your destination as, for example, the Pyramids of Giza, and you are leaving from Holy Sheet, you will then see Uber motorcycle available). But Uber motorcycle is not available from the airport, just so you know. Thanks so much for watching man, I appreciate your support! ❤️🙏
