Glad you like it! Yes, it can be tedious at times when reassembling a clock movement. Patience and observation is key.

Hi sir. This video is very helpful for me. I have the same machine but it's very old and un maintenance. Yesterday I cleaned my self and I reassemble it. I faced a issue on hour bill mechanism. One bill hit only for every hour. Liver is stuck in cam. Please give me a solution for it. Please reply me.

How did you go stringing the hammer and strike for its spring work...

This and that and this one and that one goes like this...???? Pretty vague and non descriptive. Do you know the names or the functions of each this or that? If so, it would help us if you provided the name or describe the purpose or function of each this or that as you assemble each this or that... Thank you That way we can actually troubleshoot the clock.

Excellent point, actually. I will keep this in mind going forward. Thanks!

I have just completed the cleaning of an E. N. Welch clock, and the movement is almost identical to the one shown here, presumably because the manufacturers copied each other.

So my question is when I open my september 7th 1880 Seth Thomas clock from the back I can manually touch a spring like Part and it makes the right side go but for some reason I cannot get the left side to go which is what controls the hour and minute hands. The coils are all wound up

It sounds like it's pretty well worn out and/or gummed up and in need of an overhaul, but hard to say for sure without seeing it first hand.

can you do one showing how the torsion springs are fitted?

Are you speaking of the springs for the levers on the strike train? Or for the hammer? Sorry I’m just now getting to your comment.

Why a butterfly type plate is rotating with speed before the bell is ringing 🤔
@BrackenClockWorks3 жыл бұрын
It’s basically the governor for the strike train, to keep it going at a constant rate. Otherwise it would spin faster and faster until it potentially breaks something lol

Thank you this is a very nice series. I have a question for you. What in a movement do I need to change to make a longer pendulum length?
@BrackenClockWorks4 жыл бұрын
There's a couple ways, depending on what how short it is now vs how long you want it. Easiest is to lower the number of teeth on the escapement wheel, however you may also need to lower the number of pinions on the lantern gear behind the escapement wheel, depending on how long you need the pendulum to be. There's an equation for determining the length of pendulum, you can do a google search for it as I don't recall it right off the top of my head.

Take pictures of the movement, before you disassemble. That way you don't have to try to remember how every thing goes.

Hi ive been silly and tried to fix my Smith Enfield, unfortunately about 5 gears have fallen out and I have no idea where each one goes! How do you work it out please? Thanks
@BrackenClockWorks4 жыл бұрын
My apologies for the late reply, Jamie. The only advice I have for reassembling any clock movement is to be patient; examine every part's position and function carefully. Take photos or draw diagrams before and during the repair process, no matter how minor, until you get a feel for how each part interacts with the other parts. The more you understand how the movement works, the better success rate you'll have in repairing them. Thanks!!
