This is exceptional conservation. You are beyond mere restoration. Wow!

Wow, what spectacular machines and restoration, marvelous!! A treat for the eyes. Thank you for saving so many of them. They are a splendid collection. Thank you for the in-depth tutorial on scanning and cutting these stencils. Looks like this machine is a Brothers Scan Cut priced at $300. Never knew this existed, such a great machine for stenciling and decals! The way you explained the sizing of the design for an accurate smaller print, is the same as taking a large format photo on a Hasselblad, and reducing it to a 35 mm print size. All the details are sharper and more vivid. Very clever! This is a masterclass stenciling video, many thanks! Subscribed. fyi - There is something wrong with your audio which is making lip smacking noises in the background. Use a shirt microphone pinned to your collar or one with a 'sock' on it to muffle ambient sounds around. Audio should be clear not speckled with static dust.

Thank you! I checked out your channel and enjoyed watching some of your restorations. It amazes me how investing a little time can turn rusted metal into shiny, useful tools. As you can imagine, while restoring antique sewing machines I spend a lot of time burning through micro mesh to get their metal parts shining once again. Thanks for the comment!

Love this! It has been a while since I used my Silhouette plot cutter, but once you have gone through all the effort to create a matching image, you then have a cut file, that could be shared, don't you? You could probably make some money back on all your time and effort. I have a Singer 221 that has the normal wear in front of the needle on the gold filigree. I know I'd pay for a cut file to be able to fix up the worn spots.

Hello! And thanks for commenting! You already have all you need to create a stencil to touch up your machine. Simply take a picture of a similar but undamaged section of the artwork, clean it up in whatever photo processing software you like and import that into your cutter. Resize it to match and you should be good to go. An easier solution would be to purchase a decal set and cut out the area you need. The color match might not be perfect but it's a lot quicker than going through the hassle of gold leafing. Easier still, if the wore area is small, is to get some magnifying glasses, a very fine paint brush and touch up the area by hand. Since you have a Singer 221, you might enjoy my short video about one I recently refinished: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKu6YX-PrMyFotE

@@wayneschmidt490 Thank you so much! I might try a couple of these options and see what works best. If all fails, and I completely muck it up, I suppose that I can default to repainting the old girl, and start from scratch. Thank you again for posting these great videos!

@@PrincessEvilGenius The following video shows several techniques for touching up decals by hand: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHW9h3mVfZxsipo Unfortunately, I discovered the paint pen I recommended can change color after a year, so you'll want to find a gold enamel or go the gold leaf route. The fake stuff also works well and is cheaper and easier to use.

Thank you! My current project is an 1869 Florence sewing machine. I hope to have it done and the video posted in three weeks. Wish me luck!

So without a full understanding of this process this might be a useless sugestion but have you tried using washi tape instead of transfer tape? I am not exactly sure what transfer tape is made of but Washi tape is a decorative tape used most often in planners. Most of it uses a rice glue meant to be easily removable from paper without tearning it and without leaving sticky residue.

While I haven't used washing tape, I have tried several different types of paper tapes and they all failed. The problem, even with high-end automatic tapes, is that the paper fibers hang up on the blade and end up tearing the stencil. Vinyl cuts cleanly because it's a soft plastic and doesn't have any grain.

Hi Wayne, great video. I have the exact Leigh & Crawford but in a much sorrier state. Did you make decals for yours? If so, I would love to know how.

Hello! Yes, I made my own decals. The following video shows how I did it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIGunp6OjNmEo7s I'll be happy to answer any questions you have about the process. Thanks for commenting!

For security reasons, I'm not able to give out my email address. But, I'd be happy to discuss anything you want to talk about here. I checked out your channel and enjoyed the short video of your (?) Singer Featherweight. Did you buy it that way or was the color part of a restoration you did? The decal work looked excellent and the finish superb.

@@major3078 The only way I can imagine getting stencils for a Singer 221 would be to make them yourself.
