Dude is an idiot, it is half the height, but 1/8th the volume. Should only be valued at £250k.

lol yea he treated it like a math equation. One would think, the historical significance, the artist, the meaning, etc would have been most of the value of the 2M sale and thus this would be > 1M because it has all those things and is just half the size.

It is pretty much how galleries value paintings by "non-famous" artists, so it probably makes sense for two versions of the same work by the same artist (because the "fame factor" is going to be identical for both). I just wonder whether, with sculpture, you should base it on volume instead.

It wasn't really an antique though. It was a council employee showing a council-owned artist's model of the statue. That's like doing the Roadshow at the Tower of London and giving a Yeoman Warder a valuation on the crown jewels and then saying: "Oh wow! That's the highest valuation we've ever had!".

I am a working class southerner, from a working class family and heritage. I wish we had such an iconic statue on the hills of southern England. The Angel's body screams the toughness and engineering qualities of the northern working classes whilst those wings remind me of the hulls of the great ships emerging from the skills, blood, sweat and tears of the working people of The Tyne, The Wear, The Mersey, The Humber, The Clyde and The Thames as they grow east and west across the world carrying British engineering, produce and know how to a waiting world. As art goes I think AG has created the greatest modern British works since Sir Henry Moore and look how people scoffed at his work, now worth millions and unable to stay in their rural surrounds because people keep trying to nick them. I am so glad that the majority of Geordies and Mackems now love and cherish The Angel and say bollocks to the haters.

There something beyond this earth about this Masterpiece. btw Michael the ArchAngel is a real being ( Chief Prince )the bible calls him read on : Daniel 10New International Version (NIV) Daniel’s Vision of a Man 10 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was given to Daniel (who was called Belteshazzar). Its message was true and it concerned a great war.[a] The understanding of the message came to him in a vision. 2 At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. 3 I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over. 4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris, 5 I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. 6 His body was like topaz, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude. 7 I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; those who were with me did not see it, but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves. 8 So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision; I had no strength left, my face turned deathly pale and I was helpless. 9 Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground. 10 A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. 11 He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling. 12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. 13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. 14 Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.” 15 While he was saying this to me, I bowed with my face toward the ground and was speechless. 16 Then one who looked like a man[b] touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing before me, “I am overcome with anguish because of the vision, my lord, and I feel very weak. 17 How can I, your servant, talk with you, my lord? My strength is gone and I can hardly breathe.” 18 Again the one who looked like a man touched me and gave me strength. 19 “Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed,” he said. “Peace! Be strong now; be strong.” When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, since you have given me strength.” 20 So he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come; 21 but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (No one supports me against them except Michael, your prince. Angels being real creatures created beings who serve God are another thorn in the Atheist argument i would say! The Masterpiece above inspired me to share the truth about real angels it's good to know such beings exist which means God exists and the revelation from God is that Jesus Christ is their creator as shown in the passage below google it :D Colossians 1:15-20

when the guy says "amazing...absolutely amazing" there is NO surprise in his voice at all... this is MODERN ART not an antique. Plus there was no way it was going to not be expensive. It's iconic and beautiful. I personally was hoping for some teapot an old lady found while clearing out her cupboards...a more spectacular discovery and revelation. This was plain boring...

TC Candler I saw its big brother when I visited Britain a number of years ago. It glowed a deep rust red against a blue October morning sky and for me instantly became one of the most beautiful sculptures in the world. I just had to take a closer look. When you stand under it it's even more impressive. For something so massive the fine crafting of the shape of the body is quite breathtaking. You should consider yourself lucky to have such a world class piece of art in your country.

I live in Gateshead, sell the bugger, lol. I love the Angel of the North and always have, I love Gormley's work anyway { If you can go see "Gormley's. Field" if it comes your way it is breathtaking. Mr Gormley recently transported himself way out into a desert and once there he re arranges stones to form a large circle, he said it it art because even if nobody can see it the surface of the earth has changes so it is art and therefor relevant, I love that. Gateshead needs lots of stuff so sell this model and build a play park for the kids or something

@@keithrobinson5752 True enough. However, the thing in question was so rare and (almost) unique that the expert know exactly where they were, who owned them, etc. It was a piece of silverware, if memory serves, but made by some famous smith who almost never worked in silver or never made vases or something strange. That's what made it so unusual and collectable.
