Michael Aspel presents his first Antiques Roadshow from the magnificent surroundings of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Accompanied by the familiar team of experts, they uncover a treasure trove of unusual objects including an original hand-written poem by W B Yeats, examples of Meissen from the earliest days of European porcelain manufacture, and a rare silver tobacco box rescued from a London dustbin. Plus there is a valuable painting by the leading candlelight painter of the 19th century. And John Bly tells Michael about the art of discovering the history of a piece of furniture.

I love jewellery, and Geoffrey Munn was one of my favourite experts. I like the furniture in the background much more than the piece John Bly is looking at. I liked John's enthusiasm, but his tastes were not my tastes.

Glad to hear that abomination was never built. They could get a lot more floor space out of a traditional building and probably save a huge designer's fee. What an ugly building it would have been.

I loath it. Why would you make an ugly building when you have so many beautiful buildings around it.

Don’t worry, it was never built.

Yeah that kind of building needs to be viewed as if it were sculpture and works better with open space around it. Like a sculpture in a museum, you can walk around it to get views from all sides. So I imagine a modern building such as that as if it were a centerpiece of a giant roundabout-like space. But that would be the ideal. Its almost comical how out of place it looks. Squashed in a tight spot. Idk how it looks in real life but the model makes it look… *claustrophobic.*

They stuck a pyramid in front of The Louvre. That was desecration.
