I showed up to the stylist on a movie set for a scene I was in (I am a “plus-sized” actress). They asked for my sizes and measurements ahead of time so I sent them in to them. When I showed up to wardrobe, nothing fit me. I tried on one shirt and they brought the seamstress over and she looked me up and down and said “bless her heart” to the stylist. They ended up finding something resembling a tent for me to wear. I was polite and thanked them for their time. I walked out of that fitting and quit the next day. I’m not saying it’s anyone’s fault that I’m bigger or trying to claim victim status or anything. I’m simply saying that stylists literally have one job and they seem to be consistently unable to do it when it comes to plus-sized actors, men included. It’s not like they didn’t have full body photos, dress sizes, measurements, etc at their fingertips. It ended up costing me a paying gig because my dignity was worth so much more to me. But why does it have to be that way? We’re not asking anyone to accommodate a third arm or two heads, etc. It doesn’t seem unreasonable to have some items at the ready when you have the notice.
@mamavibetribe88783 ай бұрын
I wasn't plus size not midel thin. Had a similar experience on set because they used vintage clothes but hadn't thought about my chest measurement nor provided appropriate foundation garments. Depending on the brief, it can be difficult for stylists, but this woman had appropriate advance knowledge, modern clothes, and if there was consistently a problem should have been forwarned. Physically harming her for calling the stylist out was wild....
@donperegrine9223 ай бұрын
At the risk of being taken the complete wrong way: Even if you DID have a third arm or a second head to accommodate you SENT THEM the dimensions and location of your extra head ahead of time. If they have the information and resources to do their job, and they don't then what else can be said? They suck at their job. The only excuse I could accept is if the clothing which the shoot needed was SO HYPER SPECIFIC that the warning and funds were insufficient. So, if a motorbike helmet was needed to custom made for this double-headed person. Fine! That's expensive and time consuming and needs specialist skills but a dress? Some jeans? For a plus sized person? Get on your game, stylist, this is bread and butter.

I feel like Toccara had so much personality (IN A GOOD WAY) that they were trying to bring her down intentionally. She had more personality and was more interesting than any famous judges - like Tyra and Janice. They hate everyone who is better/more interesting than them. And probably they were mad too that Toccara was so beautiful despite not being the size that other models were. (I'm not saying "despite her being beautiful" because I think people her size are less beautiful btw just saying so no one misunderstands me) I'm saying this from the judge's point of view. They act like someone who is not their perfect size deserves to be mistreated. Toccara is a whole package she is smart, funny, has a great personality and is absolutely stunning! And they hated probably how she was IT girl. That's why they tried to ruin her spirit and bring her down as much as they could.

@johnbrown9654the shadiest thing you can do is to pick a girl and make sure she doesn't feel included. Nice comments mean nothing when people in charge (Tyra literally created the show) makes sure she doesn't feel included all for the drama, tears and views. They want girls to break down for the views. Tyra especially knows how to play nice to look good. Cmon now Tyra had the power to tell the stylists about Toccara, if she wanted to she would make sure Toccara has styling choices like other girls... but like I said... views are more important than well being of the girls. And that's all I'll say. I have no further comments about this since we all know how bad antm was towards the girls. Edit: just adding this that it's fine if we disagree but no one can convince me that these judges didn't do shady things...

Yeah, that stylist should have been fired for unprofessional behavior and also bad taste. It also hurt to see how they treated Toccara and how they were unprepared and unprofessional. I never really liked Janice and I’m glad she eventually leaves the show. Models should uplift each other, not insult each other. I’m glad Tyra stood up for Toccara. You are 100% correct! I was working as a stylist back then too, and regularly styled shoots with size 14+ models and none of them went naked or had to wear 'bowling' outfits. In fact, I enjoyed those assignments as it was a refreshing change for the usual size zero-to-two that you often worked with, and those models were amazing. The fact is that some stylists are lazy and just want to pull from the same five sorry designers they always do. And yes, I always thought it was a set-up because as you mentioned, a stylist has all the models' sizes on hand before any job, and let me assure you that there were PLENTY of options for models of any size, even back then in the early 2000s. And as JEPiper said, Toccara eventually got her revenge as she got a multipage only-girl spread in Vogue Italia, shot by none other than Steven Meisel! AND it was one of the bestselling issues in Vogue Italia's history!

Jessica, Marc is not nice at all, in the go see challenge this same week he measures Cassie's hips and tells her that her hips are too big for his liking as a designer

The girls clearly were not given a clear vision of what this shoot was supposed to be, none of them understood. I don't think even the people who came up with it had a clear idea

It is really bad - but I get the impression the stylist is acting - like she's been told to say all that stuff by production. Doesn't make it any better though.

They gaslight plus sized girls a lot. I remember there was a season with a police officer whos plus sized and they all said they liked her energy. Then a few episodes later they asked why she lacked energy and life....like what do you expect? When the producers keep messing with their minds, it is draining

The stylist knew there would be at least one plus size girl there. They had to have TOLD her to get something from the Kmart clearance rack.

How infuriating, Janice has the nerve to put down and body shame Takara. Janice who has had all kinds of plastic surgery done, what a joke!

If I remember right, Nicole refused to pose in fur for the shoot and they made a big deal about it but ended up not showing it on the show at all. This kinda fed into her "being forgettable" storyline.

Janice saying someone Plus size could never be a Top model was ridiculous, Sophie Dahl was walking Paris runways , appearing in music videos and had Front covers well before this show was made , I’m pretty sure her first Vogue front cover was around 2001 ,Tocarra was absolutely gorgeous and along with Ya Ya deserved to win far more than Eva

The photoshoot looks AI generated before AI was a thing.

I remember watching this as a teenager, "skinny culture" was such a huge part of the 00's. This episode DEFINITELY exudes that toxic, gross energy from that era of time... I didn't realize how bad it was until this video!

They put Toccara on the show to get people watching - "oh wow they have a plus size contestant this season!" Then they treated her horribly every week for the drama to keep people watching. It was all calculated. The fact they cast Toccara on the show, but then never provided any clothing to accomodate her was to create drama and a storyline for views. So they effectively traumatized and humilated this woman to make their show more interesting. ANTM really is horrible for that, poor Toccara.

I can't help but feel Tocarra was also treated so horribly because she's a Black plus-size woman. Just look at how Whitney, another plus-size model on ANTM but White, was treated (and she actually ended up winning ANTM).

Cancel all the judges. They discriminated against plus size. And its sickening

Stylist: “Do you think I am supposed to have a full rack of clothes in your size?” No, ma’am, just one outfit, and you couldn’t even do that. She trying to appeal in wild superlatives that no one expects or asked for. Btw always hated Janice, don’t care how successful her career was, awful woman.

Yaya was such a kind person and she should have wom this season. Eva also has a weaker body of work

Sorry, no, I don't care HOW dramatic or over the top someone's being. People don't scream like that unless they're actually injured (that's why good horror actresses learn to scream, gotta sell it). She got pinched, but have you ever pinched yourself with a zipper or something? That sh*t HURTS. I don't appreciate the stylist downplaying it. I 100% believe she did it on purpose, too, to punctuate her crappy point.

I’m with you on this. That “stylist” was being nasty towards her.
@Bullen_33 ай бұрын
I was literally yelling. They did this on purpose to create drama and humiliate Tocarra,and you can't convince me otherwise. There is NO REASON WHY you can't accommodate.. no not accommodate,more like DO YOUR JOB as a stylist!! All those wild costumes they had the other girls in and put in her THAT, because she is size 12?! This was disgusting... And furthermore you dont scream like that over nothing. They must of really hurt her. Then Mr.j said "oh that was loud" ,bc god forbid he could have any empathy. They really didn't treat these girls like human beings with feelings.

Tocarra’s scream was an exaggeration but as a person who has been tattooed on my back an unexpected pinch or pain in that area would hurt a lot

Not only did they exploit Tocarra’s weight, they also exploited Cassie’s eating disorder, and weight too. That guest judge on the panel was trash, they had a mock go-see, and he told Cassie that her thighs and hips were too big for his clothes. Then, on episode two, Janice pointed out that Cassie looked pregnant in the swimsuit photo shoot. Also, I think the casting was primarily done by Ken and Michelle Mok. Janice, Nigel and Nole Marin didn’t have a say so for who is going to the model house.

I love looking at this from a 2024 lens because they were completely wrong. They were so outdated. In my opinion fashion should be progressive and new and fresh. They were so low budget back alley casting room nonsense.
