Lovely suite! "Polichinelle" is vibrantly coloured while "Le Reveur" is a beautiful piece, filled with romantic longing, almost Desert Island Disc fare!! Overlooked composer, so the upload is most welcome....

Arensky actually filled the gap between Tchaïkovski and Rachmaninov, keeping away from some banalities that we can find in their works. All is elegant in Arenski's music. The melody and the harmony are classical, but very refined. The orchestration is excellent. We can check these qualities in the present suite for orchestra. This suite is made of evocative pieces, but we can find more abstract orchestral work in his excellent symphonies.
