What an incredible teacher! While I did not understand all the references to Pakistan, there is abundant knowledge served up in a charismatic, effective and concise way by Taimur Rahman. I would send anyone just interested in the basic tenets of Marxism to this video apart from Rahman's explanation of Gramsci's theories, life and actions.

Very good lecture. But what happens at 37:38? How can geopolitical reason be separated from economics? When Britain wanted to prevent Russia from having Afghanistan is was to protect its most valuable asset, India - pure economics.

Gramsci writes about culture in the society. He writes about religion, family, nationalism and the rest of the cultural heritage a nation has been developing for millenia in order to advance to a socialist movement and country. All of these need to be deconstructed. Basically, most of the Marxists were atheists.

The point on compromise seems dangerous to me, because it depends on who you’re compromising with and what you’re compromising about. For instance, Hitler became more powerful because European leaders wanted to compromise. And Hitler played them, and made them look weak and foolish while he was building his reich. That said, I’m struggling with Gramsci, and this lecture was super useful. Thank you.

All you need to know about Gramsci is his theory of Cultural Hegemony and how it's applied today through critical theories (Critical Theory, Max Horheimer), Critical Pedagogy (Paulo Freire), and Intersectionality (Kimberle Crenshaw).

@10:05 “Avanti” a socialist newspaper 📰 that means “Forward”? Where have I heard this used before? Oh! That’s right the 2012 #Obama campaign slogan. 🤔 Not a lot here. I see why parents can be easily swayed to not ph for a kids university endeavor. #JamesLindsey seems to get to the point faster and then breaks down all the fascinating details of his points.

@tomsmithie3917
@tomsmithie3917 Жыл бұрын
@@Cvs999v all the shit about hegemony and how to destroy social order as a way of instituting communism in mind and law. Gramscis idea was that the “cultural hegemony” of Western cultures prevented communism from having any chance of taking root, so he recommended a strategy that seeks to tear apart and capture major cultural institutions, including religion, family, education, media, and law. Mao understood this clearly and used it to devastating effect. The same thing is happening throughout the West today.

@@Cvs999v The Culture of the west, things like individualism, individual rights, private ownership and property, the free market, and self reliance prevent the Communists from taking over. How do you circumvent this? You put communists in positions of authority like schools, you teach the kids that there are "the people" and "enemies of the people" and that everything is about oppression and divisiveness. These "Enemies" include land owners, business owners, anyone who dares stand taller than the lowest peasant. This rots their social structures all the way down to family and friendship, and causes them to be entirely dependent on the approval of The Communist Cause. The kids cause a blood soaked revolution and install you as dictator. The dictator then kills the kids. That's the history of China. Word for word and action for action Gramsci's playbook. One thing to remember about Antonio Gramsci is he was very sick, all his life. He had lots of diseases and died young. Communism appeals to the weak because it makes everyone as weak as you.
