a good dramatic build, with a traditional 'plagal' cadence..... it's a fine work. Liturgical or otherwise.

The whole 'work' is about 8 measures, repeated over and over and over and over. At the end, a lame cadenza. No wonder Mozart made fun of Salieri.

If a fine piece of liturgical music that's being performed with appreciation around the world over two hundred years after its completion. The repeated measures form a _tonus peregrinus,_ a common device in church music employed by Bach, Allegri, and, yes, Mozart. The cadenza is also as would be used in a such setting -- it isn't "lame", but intentionally written in a non-showy, non-ostentatious way. Whatever low regard Mozart had for Salieri's music in general, I seriously doubt he would have ridiculed this one, and it's stood the test of time quite admirably.

@@Galantski Has it been written that Mozart ‘made fun’ of Salieri? This I would find hard to believe. Salieri was much esteemed throughout Vienna and well established....ALSO RICH. He was thought as the successor to Gluck in Paris & Vienna...A friend of Haydn, very close with Gluck, Gassmann’s student....Favourite of Emperor Joseph...respected by Hasse.... Not sure what there would have been there to make fun of. Mozart was certainly a more gifted musician as seen through a rear view mirror. In the 1780s these contemporaries would be viewed in a much more even light.

@@MrWoodCy You're mixing me up with the person who began this thread. That's the person who said Mozart made fun of Salieri. I actually defend the work, while the other person trashes it. I doubt that the Mozart held the Salieri to be his equal as a composer, but make fun of him? That seems more in line with _Amadeus,_ than with history. In writing this comment, I was surprised by a search to find that the two of them combined with an unknown third composer to write a brief cantata: www.classicfm.com/composers/mozart/news/mozart-salieri-opera-score/
