In regards to the song "Believe" - Cher was one of the first artists to use autotune in a song that became a major hit - she used it to make her voice have an electronic quality to it. She didn't do it because she couldn't hit the notes. A bunch of artists started using autotune after her to replicate the electronic effect. However, other artists found out they could use it to hide the fact they couldn't really sing.

Cher is one of those unique artists in that when she chooses to use auto tune, it’s not to cover up bad vocals, it’s for effect. Love it or hate it, she’s still substance that throws in a few style quirks every now and then. But her Heart of Stone era is incredible.

I love your reaction to this one. Been waiting for this one to get posted. Dude, she has it all. Her voice just takes me in. I get lost in it. She has some ballads that she does that will just rip your heart out. She makes you feel something. This was probably her biggest album. Had so many hits in the 80s. However, the best part of this review is where you say you "dont want to prove Paul right" or the "fuck yea, Cher" at the end. LOL. Cant get much better than that. HAHA. We are now 4 out of 4 for Cher reviews. We have only just begun this ride.

This is a fantastic song!!! One of my favorites from Cher for sure!!😍 You HAVE to listen to Believe! And Adam Lambert’s cover of Believe as well! He made Cher cry at the Kennedy Center Honors when he sung it for her!!! I may or may not have also cried 😅

Her discography is so deep and detailed in quality and meaning.....she's now working on her 27th studio album, and has sold nearly 200 million albums since 1965. There really is no bigger entertainer of the last 60 years. You should critique her Superbowl appearance in 1999 singing the national anthem. Beyond amazing.

This song is yet another fantastic composition by Michael Bolton. If you like it, you have to listen to this version by Michael Bolton (with an amazing vocal performance), and also listen to the 2012 version by a band called Sunstorm (with a more hard rock instrumental). And if you like power ballads like Cher, Bonnie Tyler, Heart and Tina Turner, you have to listen to Chez Kane, the new voice of melodic rock. Everything I said is easily found on KZbin.

Believe is not exactly auto-tuned. Auto-tuning is usually used to fix a crappy voice, if a singer's pitch is bad and off key. They used auto-tune to create a vocoder effect in small snippets here and there in the song. Intentionally distorted Auto-Tuned vocals. According to Songfacts "The song's vocal effect came from an unlikely source. Cher recalled to Q magazine December 2013: "While we were recording 'Believe' in the UK, I saw Roachford on a morning TV show. He was singing with a vocoder and guitar, and it sounded so great. My producer said, 'You can't do that after you've recorded the song. But I was playing around with the pitch machine and I think I can get something interesting from that...' So he played it and we just smiled at each other. It was exactly what we needed to make the really boring verse... sing."

This was Michael Bolton's hit song that he wrote and recorded on his "Soul Provider" the same year as this album but she recorded it simultaneously and released it. It was a bigger hit for him believe it or not. You can listen and compare.

"Believe" was only autotuned in a couple bars and was used sparingly -- it was only later it became abused/overused. She has been a major contralto (lowest female singing voice) since the 1960's. She had a string of #1 U.S. hits from 1971-74 until there fourth #1 "Believe" in 1999.

In that song was the first time auto tune has been use in a song ever, and initially the idea was to just add special effects to the sound, only later it started to be use to mask bad vocals, Cher was always a great singer, funny enough her mother that is in her 90s released an album and she sound just like Cher

Yeah really wrong. Believe is the wrong song to judge her voice by because they used auto tune to add a specific effect not to fix anything about her voice. Cher is one of the pinnacle female voices of the century and no one sounds quite like her.
