this seems like a tragically sad song for me. And yet it's such a familiar feeling... When you are in love with someone so blindly that you can't (or don't let yourself) realize that other person isn't. And then you are only "left to pick up the hints, the little symbols...", while having inner feeling that something is not right. For me this song is exactly about this feeling of inferiority and love blindness

Anohni is a man. Your excessive use of the words she and her is idiotic. Antony is unfortunately a far less talented man now than he was with Antony and the Johnson's. A tragedy.

@@mauricekiely6703 Anhoni is whatever the fuck she wants to be. Go out in the world and talk to people. Talk with humans who have felt off their entire lives. Whose instincts, tastes, maneurism have been represed and who find the courage to announce to the world that they decide to live how they feel inside. Don't judge people until you've walked a mile in their shoes. Unfortunately in this case it's not possible so compassion is what's left. Use a person's prefered pronouns, how hard is that.

she's a trans woman if that helps! even when talking about a time where a trans person isn't presenting as they're current gender you still use they're current pronouns. also this whole album speaks a lot about her transition and her internal struggle with it. I first discovered Anohni by chance, singing a duet with Lou Reed on his profound song, "Candy Says." The song was written in 1969, when Lou was with the Velvet Underground. The lyrics are specifically about a transgender woman, so having Anohni sing the part brings a real life bearing to the song, almost like it was written for Anohni. The performance is absolutely transformational and packs an incredibly emotional wallop, not just for the performers themselves, but the whole audience. I only know of one transgender individual in my life (the son of my wife's boss, who went through surgery and now lives as a woman). Hearing the story about the process is harrowing, readily reflecting what Lou Reed expresses in his famous hit, "Take a walk on the wild side." I suspect any person, including Caitlyn Jenner, who has persevered through such a fate, must have some kind of grit. In any case, Anohni is a wonderfully gifted vocalist I hope to hear in person one day...

I heard this for the first time tonight, on an old tv show, searched for it found it read the lyrics.listened to it and and read the lyrics again and thought about the lyrics.then searched for the story behind this song. I disagree with most interpretations. I feel its a love that is fierce. Felt by both. Fierce, deep and unbreakable. not violent. Either because one is no longer here or one cannot respond. And they both know. And the ache that is felt inside is well...... I like my interpretation much better. And this is what this means to me. It hurts so bad.

this song is crazy on so many levels! the fact that he's gay and he's singing about "fistful of love", but it's also sweet in a weird way. The lyrics are deep and ambiguous at the same time. "I accept and I collect, on my body, the memories of devotion", it's kind of twisted but, again, in a way romantic.
