This video is a perfect representation on why I love this channel. Somehow, an ant colony moving into a new tube felt like a huge event. The replete and sleeping worker gives a flash of humanity to these insects. Maybe it is anthropomorphizing just a bit, but you can see and follow the whole line of logic those ants used. It drives home for me that this colony is more than just the sum of its parts, it is a family/community to these ants, which is really amazing.

I think that, at least when you move into the new anthouse, you should create an "antiverse medical bay". This is a tank with the sole purpose of growing those mites that prey on the parasitic mites. That way, any future mite invasions can be readily solved before they become a problem!

After doing some research, I think Princess Nymphae would be a nice name for the queen. Nymphs are a kind if greek deity that is strongly tied to the forest and most importantly trees. They're known for being very pretty and for turning into trees to deceive the mortals. I think it describes pretty well the carpenter ants, since, for the most part, they live inside trees and are also pretty cute.

I was done like this by my own mother. I came home from work one day and the house was pretty much packed up. Boxes were all over, my mom sitting on the couch, I asked what's going on. She said I'm moving, I asked am I going. She said it's only a three bedroom. That ment a bedroom for her and the other brothers. I was basically told no room for you at this inn. In less than an hour after that, she came and busted the room door open and said you got five minutes to get your sh*t and get out. So at 19 with nowhere to go I was homeless once again. Isn't family great. I ended up going back to my home state, slept in my car all summer, worked two jobs and eventually got a place to stay. I eventually just had to stop all interaction with her and my life's been better. Going on 15 years without one word spoken to her.

I've slept outside for two years once in -6° winters and 120 degree summers. They all have their own lives and could care less. That's the way it's always been. I just keep surviving the best I can. My grandparents were the only ones who gave any help to me. And they are gone, I stop by their grave and thank them once in a while.

You got me in to keeping critters! I’ve been watching your videos for years and my dad has always said hell no to keeping ants but after your videos about your P. Metallica and later her egg sack and babies (would love an update on them btw) I fell down the KZbin rabbit hole of tarantula keeping and was able to convince my Dad that a few New World Tarantulas would be acceptable inverts to keep after doing tons of research! Thank you so much for introducing me to how wonderful invertebrates can be!
