lasius niger is also able to overwinter, i did it with mine and they had no problem with it, they have a lot of eggs and and larva, i think its about 60/90 larva, i caught the queen last year and during the winter they did a diapause, like the exotic ants do, the queen laid no eggs and the larva didnt grow fast, but they were still active and aceppted food

Not all caught Myrmica queens are necessarily Myrmica rubra. There are many dozens of species in your country. This queen might have several characteristics (shape of antennal scapes and petioles) to be listed as a different species. Get macro shots on her "face" and side of petioles.

Wow! I often find polyergus rufescens workers in my area (Serbia) making crazy long trails across the street, caring brood, every summer, but I didn't know much about them and that they are called like that! Great to know that they are living in my area!

@@ДавидЗукић well I guessed so since Vojvodina is flat lands compared to the rest of Serbia, I guess that probably has an affect on ant species in the area, since I'm in Šumadija(Kragujevac) and I've never really seen Polyergus here. Brate Srpski ne pričam ovde da bi drugi razumeli.

@@AntsVienna I finally got lucky on the 10th. I caught 16 Lasius Niger queens and 2 Lasius Flavus. 7 of them have already have eggs. Yesterday I was walking my dogs at a nature reserve and the ants there put on a bit of a show. As the alates were flying up, hundreds of giant dragonflies were catching them in mid air all around me. Even the seagulls were trying to catch them. It resembled an alien invasion movie, where the airforce is trying to destroy alien craft that flow endlessly from the mothership. Good times😂

This year i caught a camponotus fallax queen (sadly died unknown reason), a lasius brunneus queen (raised nanitics but she died because i exposed them to sunlight to move them as they were not moving with light from a flashlight), 2 emarginatus queens (I made a 2 queen colony and they currently they have about 20 nanitics), a colobopsis truncata (I released her as she wasn't laying eggs) and a camponotus baldaccii queen (Has wing but no eggs i hope she has mated)

I see you have many queens and many stories! Seems like you fried your Brunneus there😅 Wish you good luck with the queens and colonies remaining. PS: For some reason Fallax are generally developing slow and many do not survive. Don't take it personally
