Tirvat - A Solo Kathak Performance by Dhani Jhankaal
As Kathak evolved, many new elements joined the grammar of the dance but the basic grammar has remained strongly where it was giving a wonderful blend of modern and ancient to the dance style. Keeping in mind the interest of the audience, Kathak dancers came up with a new concept of Tirvat.
Tirvat does not depict a particular story but marks the fusion of grand hand movements along with the classical footwork and Chakkars. Tirvat was adapted by the Kathak Dancers in the era of Amir Khusros poems. The next item Tirvat is based on Teen Taal and Raag Kalawati in which the basics of Kathak - Tatkar, body movements and chakkars have been infused. Music composition by Padam Vibhushan Birju Maharaj Ji and choreographed by Anita Ordia.
