Thanks for helping me not to regret missing this. I have a castle layout of my own and just got the viking village for my related (2-set) viking layout. I missed this by two months it looks like. The only thing I would've liked is to get the more 'modern' Dragon Knight.

Honestly, GWP remake is huge downgrade compared to original Majisto Magical Workshop. New Majisto has no print on torso nor glow in dark magic wand. There is no Dragon Masters shield nor orginal helmet with dragon plumes. Also there is no halberds and GWP has to many stickers. And dragon knight has boring and generic fem head instead of updated original one with cool goatee. And on top of that you have to spend 250 bucks to get it. I will buy original set instead from bricklink.

Fully agree! It is really example how to ruin a super great idea just due to poor execution in few minor details!!! Just add printed Majisto torso, Shield and Dragon Helmet and perception would be totally different!!! Such a great disappointment!

grab an used, complete one then, new and sealed of the original set costs 210$ USD and up.

Love to see your castle area! Amazing! About the best you can get without full MILS. I need a few simple & easy trees like you have. I've already MILS plated my 2x Blacksmith and my Forestmen Treehouse MOC, so I feel like I have to continue that for new sets, but I def need a lot more green plate and 2x2 bricks to make more MILS plates! You're tempting me to make a small path on 4 baseplates and put a few small sets on it.

Good review. I can see where nostalgia could entice someone to get this set if they had the original as a child. However if you don’t have a castle layout I don’t see it as a must have.

Actually very grateful for your criticism because I trust you on these things (unlike random people on big forums) and I was in that position of struggling to justify the large threshold. Won’t have to dip into my savings now!

Glad it helped. I would struggle spending that much money just to make sure I got this. I just hope private sellers offer it at a reasonable price.

I completely agree! I’m struggling with FOMO but I find this set very underwhelming for the $250 spend threshold. There’s nothing I absolutely need right now to convince me to spend the money to get this GWP. Thanks @alexnunes!

@@alexnunes I agree - at some point in the future you never know, but for now I’ll try and keep my holiday :). I can see with all the promos there’ll be a lot of multiple purchases this weekend, so I reckon a few of them knocking around on eBay and so on.

SAME, I was in the shop during Black Friday weekend but I couldn’t justify spending $250+ when nothing caught my eye. Bought it from a private seller for $35 instead!

$250.00 seems like a high price point for the set. Miss the shield, old school halberts, stickers for the shutters, and a glowing wand. Certainly below the Forest Hideout. Really like your layout.

I built a 2x size Blacksmith, and people at my first convention this year loved it. Many wanted to buy one, I told them to get a Lego account. I'm stocking up on that set to sell them over the next few years because (like Lion Knights' Castle) the production ends by January. This weekend there was a $35 off coupon. I save up for GWP weekends like this. The set isn't perfect, but I may well 2x it and MOC it. It will be nice to add 2 Dragon Knights and not take them off the used market. Castle is my main theme so it makes sense for me.

@@Nphen I didn’t realize that the Lions Knight Castle was being discontinued in January. Thankfully my kids and I have that one already. I bought enough to get the workshop this weekend with all the parts I am gathering. I am sure at some point Lego will stop making the cloth parts for the Lion Knight castle and the capes that are a part of the pack are really nice. Lego needs to make some more Castle sets for sure.

I actually had some of the old original shudders from the 1990's sitting in my box unused so I gave a tweak by replacing the brick built ones for the original ones back then and it worked. Also you could have placed the extra wand piece in the treasure chest too just like I did.

I don‘t like the hole under the roof and the upper floor inside looks empty. I would not spend 250 Euro/Dollars to get it. Honestly. But it is a nice addition to your castle layout. 😊

@@julienturcot8112 i wouldn't say that proves we won't get it. we didn't get black falcon helmets until the lion knights castle and its odd they would reintroduce the dragon knight torso and majistos wand piece in a gwp without any other plans for them even if its not centric to them.

@@rttnkng It was reintroduced to mark the 30th anniversary of the set. The wand does not glow in the dark, it's a pale imitation. The torso is nice however. But still no shield and helmet which were the Dragon Knight signature. That being said, I wish they would do that, butI would not hold my breath. Have a nice day!

Personally, I didn't feel the love as a Castle fan this time. I would have preferred a more modernized model, rather than what practically looks like a copy of the original. An updated dragon shield would have been a nice bone to throw, too. I'll still pick it up for nostalgia though. I guess Lego knows us Castle fans will take what we can get 😅

well you also got set 40602, a winter themed creator set as a G.W.P. starting at a lower price as well, so this was a second gift at $250 level. I had about a $150 of pick a brick items that had been sitting in my cart for a month, so I added the 3 in 1 castle to my cart and got the works. I am just starting to get back into lego the last few months so it didn't feel to bad for me to buy that much as I don't have a large collection yet.

I’ll either buy from LEGO and get the medieval Blacksmith and maybe Monkie Kid set or Pick a Brick parts to meet requirement OR buy from bricklink. Wonder what the going rate will be ?…? Honestly it looks like a $50-$75 set which I’d happily pay .

It looks great for a GWP set, disappointing that they used stickers for the shudders since I think they have a modern mold of the piece, I’m not surprised that they used the same design for majisto since 1) most of the torso is covered by the beard piece and 2) it’d be silly to make a exclusive torso for the same character. The lack of shield is a bit disappointing, but the build itself is a improvement over the original

The original Majisto had prints on his torso, he had a belt that was only half covered by his beard. I find the lack of shield, the distinctive helmet and printed map lacking IMO. I don't mind the female character in this set. I can't tell if it's an improvement over the 93 set, I will have to compare it to the orignal one that I still have to make my mind.

@@julienturcot8112 yeah the original torso for majisto was just a recolor of the huntsman torso, I actually have 2 of the figure one from my brother and a replacement (my sister found on amazon for $12 in 2018) after my dog got hold of the first one when she was still a puppy I agree that they should have added a shield, I understand the helmet and the dragon spire being replaced due to the original one has been discontinued for a long time and wish that the spell tile was printed too it was one of my favorite tile pieces. I would think that the build is just a bit more detailed like the chimney for example

Awesome video. My plan is to pre-order the modular on Saturday to get both promos and double points, and then I will be only $137 short to getting the Avengers tower next year so since I don't have a lot of buying planed for 2024 I think I will be working through my backlog of sets a lot in 2024 as I am finally to that point.

@BrickTemplar I originally was going for diagon alley but once they did gringos it wouldn't fit my layout at all anymore so I am skipping both sets and in turn I am saving 100% for the avengers tower now.

@alexnunes Yeah, I have been saving both cash and rewards points specifically for it since the start of the year. It won't be a day 1 buy but definitely a 2024 buy for sure since my Lego buy list next year isn't too big.

There are plenty of $ 250+ sets on my wish list, but this GWP is not making me rush out and grab one. All in all a bit underwhelming. The stickered shutters are honestly a bit pathetic. It's a pass for me.

I am glad this is gift with purchase because I wouldn't be buying one if they had it for sale. It looks awful. Looks like it was slapped together with leftover parts. No idea what the building is supposed to be. Is it made out of rock, tree? No idea. It better not rain because the roof sure isn't going to hold any water back. They also have random weapons all over the build that you can't get to. What is a magician need with weapons? Anyway, thanks for the review Alex.

Compared to the GWP forest hideout this is a downgrade and compared to the og magical workshop it’s a downgrade imo. It’ll still fit well into my castle layout but I’ll have to be more strategic with the money I spend on LEGO to get this GWP than I initially intended

The soldier minifigure is what made me lose interest. where is the unique bushy moustache grizzled Dragon knight and his dragon helmet and shield. Generic figures are what we got instead.

I am a big castle fan and I like the building itself, a lot of nostalgia. However there are some great flaws. No functional door is 1st one. Stickers for a window and scroll, seriously Lego? Where are jewels in the chest lol? Minifigures are a big disappointment. Where is shield and dragon feathers helmet? Where is print for Majisto? I guess Lego just rushed designing this model, putting minimum effort. Really bad. It seems like Lego is making fun of all Castle fans! For comparison, Forestmen GWP was way superior. About the medieval diorama under the table, I love it. All those awesome castles and buildings (most of them I also own). I suggest you make the curved pathway with curved plates and wedges, looks much better. When you will add foliage all over? 😄 Maybe you can try different techniques for more realistic trees, different types of trees (few spruces)... I always love your medieval layout at the end of the videos, I can't wait to see new things and improvements. Keep the good work! 😀

This is a good example where the remake suffers from adhering too much to the original design. Since I have zero nostalgia for the set, objectively this model looks too basic and unfinished compared to modern sets.

errrr... I don't really like it because for me, if you want to make an homage, make it more like today's style, for example, I really like the old set, but seperatly from the new ones, because they have a different aesthetic, I don't want a mix of them !!

I’m actually quite annoyed by the forced female mini figs in all of these sets. Don’t mind the addition of some of them but not every set needs female military characters. I really liked the female in the Forestmen Hideout set but was disappointed that she did not have her own female version torso. The soldier in this set should’ve just been closer to the original set.
