Anxiety Expressed in Inside Out 2: Trying to help Riley

You touched so well on so many good points about this movie, another thing that didn't really get mentioned but that I really liked, building on when Anxiety says "I didn't mean to hurt her, I was trying to protect Riley", is that the sense of self that Anxiety crafted that ended up saying "Im not good enough", Anxiety had started because she INTENDED for it to say something like "I'm a great hockey player" or something, but because she over-obsessed about it, it turned into something completely unintended and spiralled out of control. Which caused Anxiety to feed into itself and try even harder to "fix" the mistake which only hurt Riley more, and by the time she realised she was hurting Riley it was too late for her to know how to stop on her own. It needed Joy to break through, meet it with compassion and gentleness and say "you don't get to choose who she is, you need to let go". And when Anxiety hears what the new sense of self says, shes SO upset about it and says something like "no no no it wasn't supposed to be like this!". She genuinely wanted to help, just messed it up, she wasn't BAD, just misguided. I ugly cried.

I haven't seen the movie, but I have seen clips with Anxiety......the scenes with Anxiety's projections....and Reily's anxiety attack.......I was in absolute tears watching that scene as I related with it so much. I suffer from anxiety attacks and the whole freezing up thing is very relatable.

I had Herman's Head as a TV series using this concept in comedy 30+ years ago. Seeing Disney take it and run wasn't a surprise.

Absolutely!! I loved this movie, so much!!🍿 This video is so cool, she’s saying it just like it is, anxiety can be so overwhelming and tough to handle. This is just so accurate and the movie was so good and this definitely made me cry. 😢😭 Honestly though, it was very true and interesting, I really found it entertaining, just the way the emotions were portrayed and how they were represented in the movie, anyway, awesome video and I loved this movie, it was so amazing and just so relatable. The sense of aelf scene wasn't quite that. Yes, they do take out Riley's anxiety based self and put on the old one, but it doesn't work because Riley knows that thats not who she is. All of her dlaws have come to thw forefront. Joy realizes she's been doing the same thing as anxiety, chosing who Riley's suposed to be. They take out the old one and allow Eilwy to make a knew sense of self that stkll acknowledges her faults and comes to terms with them. Only then is she anle to truly relax.
