@Satanic Panic Fun and Games There's a few threads about this on Gearslutz and other sites. It's either a mini moog or a synthi, which was an early synthesizer built into a suitcase. I forget which. They just ran it through a delay.

For those that don't know the title comes from Henry Ford the founder of Ford Motor Company. When mass producing the Model T, he said "You can have any colour you like, as long as it's black". This caught on as an expression, although you don't hear many people say it today. When titling this song, Pink Floyd wanted to use it as a metaphor for a lack of choice in soceity. Ironically, I think this is perhaps the most colourful song on the album.
@davewright93132 жыл бұрын
I didn't know that 👍

Very interesting! I knew the Henry Ford quote but had no idea of the relation between the quote and this tune...and it most certainly IS colorful!

Listening to this song so much, my mind actually convinced itself that it can see music as colour now. This one becomes somewhat pearlescent purple.
@myamorgan54622 жыл бұрын
Maybe they wanted this one to be the most colorful to show how even though society bushes the lack of choices we still have the ability to be colorful and not do what society says and makes us think we have to.

I really don't understand why this song is so underrated. To me is the climax of one of the most wonderful and influential albums ever made! The song begins when Us and them ends, a beautiful song that makes you feel nostalgic, and then... BOOM it takes you to the space, in just 3 and a half minutes, you are in a journey to the cosmos
@Max-ro7sz5 жыл бұрын
Sadly, any song like that is usually underrated because it's instrumental.Pink Floyd has other intrumental songs that I find extremely underrated, for example, there's Marooned, Terminal Frost, Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast, A Saucerful of Secrets, and even Atom Heart Mother.

I love how everything sounds like it’s fighting over each other for the entire song, up until the last minute or so. The synths in the beginning feel like they’re trying to overpower each other, and then the guitars come in and it feels like one is trying to one up the other. Then suddenly, all 4 start working together at the very end and it just melts into such a good ending song, sound, and feeling wise.

My first time listening to this song was when I decided to sit down and genuinely listen to Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety while on LSD. The way the album seemingly grows leading up to this song is beautiful; the lyrics of each song present a challenging, yet relatable theme and the music connecting each of the themes flows seamlessly alongside. After being heartbroken by contemplating Waters and Wright's views of war expressed in the lyrics of "Us and Them", the transition into "Any Colour You Like" and the following three and a half minutes of instrumental freedom from the weight of the lyrical themes of the songs leading up to it led me to a serene, blissful place. Listening to that transition and this song afterwards took me to a place, for the first time, where I felt peace in a world with so many unavoidable problems.

That Guitar solo....but i mean this Song is just so well made and designed, from the beginning to the End! The mix of the different instruments is just perfect. Pink Floyd was just the most talented Band ever, for creating sounds and songs like this!

This is one of the few songs I don't mind isolating when I listen to Floyd for they are a concept album band with the songs threaded together production wise. I know 'Floyd Freaks' that don't know the title of this. A vastly underrated instrumental - when fans talk of 'Dark Side' it's always 'Money', 'Time', or 'Breathe'. I always mention this one. Gilmour's stereo mixed speaker to speaker / ping ponged guitar bits between 1:34 and 1:58 are definitely an eargasm.

What an amazing song from a legendary album..."Dark Side of The Moon" charted for 741 straight weeks on Billboards Top from 1973 to 1988...fell out then the album re-entered the charts and has since appeared for over 900 weeks. Nothing else is even remotely close.

Throughout the entire first part I love how the soothing notes keep echoing and dancing around, and it culminates with them slowly fading away from 1:10 to 1:19. Then the guitar comes with a more potent vibe and takes the song to many other places and feelings. I just love it.

this song sums up pink floyd. this is everything they were, are and will forever be. I can remember when I first heard this song, everything changed for me. I instantly fell in love with pink floyd. my first acid drop was to this song. words cant express what floyd and this song in general mean to me. through all of the in- fighting between and Gilmore and waters this song remains. I like to think that richard wright is up there playing this song right now.

Everything about this song screams artistic perfection. From the triply vibes on guitar to the soothing jazzy drums. Even the bass notes fit perfectly within the song. And the fact that this song meshes seamlessly within Us and Them and Brain Damage makes this song a gem in this album. If you don't know the song Fearless off of Meddle you should listen to that too. Probably my favorite Floyd song of all time.
@itstwigster9 жыл бұрын

Alex Ward Not sure about the other guy but here's a few: Echoes San Tropez One Of These Days Fearless (Of course) Outside The Wall Goodbye Blue Sky The Happiest Days Of Our Lives (Leading right into ABitW p.II) Wish You Were Here (Album) The Final Cut (Album) There's also A Saucerful Of Secrets, but that has a much different feel from the more 'famous' Floydian works and seems unpopular amongst a lot of people. Really, there's tons of great music that Floyd made. They've made fifteen studio albums, and only about 4 (Occasionally 5 or 6) are ever mentioned. People need to explore more of what they have. Anyways, best of luck.

Got TDSOTM 8 track for Christmas 1979 when I was 14. I was blown away by every track but especially this one. 43 years later it takes me back to that era of being a carefree light hearted teen, the best days of my life. I still have the 8 track and an Emerson M2100 all in 1 stereo.

@isaiahbaker35977 жыл бұрын
What I love about this song is that it flows so well but it still surprises me and gives me goosebumps. When my subconscious expects a strum to be on the downbeat, it might be on the upbeat, just to throw me for a loop. That explanation doesn't sound like much, but it's effect is profound

I've listened to this album twice this month and this is one of my favorite tracks off it, I remember them all from when I was little, exactly how they sound, the words when they have any and something about this song gives me an odd feeling of peace and comfort, things aren't going exactly how I planned or want and I'm not always happy, but this song makes me feel at peace with all the bad things that have happened and what will happen in the future, I'm glad that when I was little my dad played this album so much. I miss him sometimes. I'll always have his music and it means something to me.
