Yesterday I was wondering, what is Samuel Ramey up to. I was so glad to see you looking so well. I loved seeing you many times in London and your many recordings have played an important part of my life. The bit about recitative resonated with me. There is nothing worse than if they are lumpy and drawn out. But they can be magical in the right hands. I look forward to watching the other videos.

Thank you both so much for those videos. I would like to ask about that production of Maometto II. in Pesaro 1985, where you had to balance on shoulders of muscle guys and sing that crazy coloratura of one of the hardest aria for bass :) wonder how the rehearsing was and if there were some funny accidents. Greetings from your huge fans in Czech republic.

It's too much fun to go to sleep singing softly "5 ... (late!) ... 10 ..."😂 or the letter L ! 😍 I have a question about ... musical. “On the town” (London 1992, conductor Michael Tylson Thomas, I have a vhs with excerpts of this videorecording). From Mephistopheles to Pitkins (“I understand...” ), how this project was born? How did it go? After “On the Town”, have you acted in any other Broadway musicals? And the cd "So in love"? How beautiful is your version of “The music of the night”...😍 Thank you very much!!

There is someone I know and heard of who is familiar with voice-overs very well. His name is Eric Holloway and, believe it or not, he is also a bass. He does a lot of voice-overs as well as singing as his side job. His vocal range, however, is very wide from an F1 to F5, which is like at least an octave or lower below the normal bass range. Men, like Holloway and Vladimir Miller, are referred to as ocktavists because they are bassi profundi(lower basses) that could sing those very low notes that they almost sound like earthquake tremors. Anyhow, I maybe wrong, Holloway is the one I recommend for voice-overs.

Maestro first of all I would like to say thank you for being Samuel Ramey and inspiring for us. I’m huge fun of you and at the beginning of my career and your my Vorbild! I was always wondering in what category you’re putting your voice? And please tell us about the lowest/highest roles that you sang. Greetings from Firenze
@samuelrameybassbehindthecu1773 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I consider myself a basso cantante. Scarpia is the highest role I have sung, the lowest is Seneca in L'incoronazione di Poppea. Thank you for your questions.

By the way, I was wondering if you might discuss about the album, No Tenors Allowed, that you collaborated with Thomas Hampson. I am aware that he did another album in the same title years ago with another bass/bass-baritone, Luca Pisaroni.

I love opera, yet somehow I only heard of you a couple weeks ago! I was looking for a good ol' man river rendition, and watched your video many times over. I find it difficult to find singers that put enough passion and emotion into their singing, and acting, yet you are both so powerful and entrancing in your delivery. I don't know if you talked about this in other videos because I only found this channel about 45 minutes ago, but I saw that you did a duet with Dmitri Hvorostovsky singing "Il rival salvar tu dei... Suoni la tromba intrepido" which I thought was really great. I was just wondering when performing a duet like in that instance, do you guys spend time together outside of rehearsing, how long/ often do you practice together and so on? Both you and he have such powerful voices, so did either of you need to adjust or compensate for the other somehow? Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us in these videos (I'll need to watch them throughout the week)!
@samuelrameybassbehindthecu1773 жыл бұрын
I believe we only had one or two rehearsals for that duet. Dmitri and I had performed together before, so we knew each other. That can make rehearsing easier, but if everyone involved comes prepared, you don't need much rehearsal. Glad you found the channel and are enjoying it.

Have you done a lot of oratorios? Messiah, of course, (and thank you for pronouncing the "g" in "we shall be changed". Most people seem to say "we shall be chained" which is not appealing). I seem to remember some Bach cantatas with Elly Ameling. Others?
@samuelrameybassbehindthecu1773 жыл бұрын
I have done many oratorios and yes, a Bach cantata with Elly Ameling. Pronunciation is very important.

Il tuo italiano è perfetto, Maestro, ma c'è una cosa curiosa: ho notato che a volte tu sostituisci la lettera N con la lettera L (il moldo, ilvece, qualulque), rendendo più difficile la pronuncia! Grande maestro!

I am unaware of doing that. Can you give me an example?

@samuelrameybassbehindthecu1773 жыл бұрын
@@giulianataramella1192,perhaps it just sounds that way. In order to keep the vowel more open and not close everything off while singing, some modification happens. Just touching the "N" sound, rather than leaning on it as one would if speaking.
