I think Syndney should stick to more A24 arthouse type projects. She shines in them. She built her career on taking risks and now she trying to break into the mainstream, but she’s doing herself a disservice. I don’t think her Marvel debut will be much better either. Maybe she only agrees to these roles because of the pay, we all remember the Instagram rant.

I think Hollywood doesn't know what good chemistry is anymore... being extremely hot isn’t everything and no offense to Billy Crystal but Henry Met Sally is the perfect exemple of that of actors who are well matched with an edge. Sydney and Glenn look and act like siblings, and the average writing could *only* have been saved by intense intense charisma in the leads...anyway, love your videos ! ♡

this! Hollywood nowadays seems to think that it is enough to just throw two beautiful people in a movie together and it's 'chemistry', while it's not like this at all. Chemistry is smth way more than good looks together. Chemistry is having similar wit, charm, connection. Glen and Sydney don't share even one of these things. He is very funny, has a natural wit, and is way more mature than her, and it shows during promo interviews too. They don't match at all, and that's why it's the funniest thing for me when all the people online fangirl over them being 'really in love'. I don't see it at all. 🤣I just see two hot, beautiful movie people, just like countless others in this industry.

The problem is that Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell are both way too hot to be in a romantic comedy. I don't believe for a single second that either of them have any trouble whatsoever finding any partner they could possibly want.

I mean if you had paid attention to the movie you’d realize that Sydney sweeney’s character had only just recently broken up with her long term boyfriend and Glenn powell’s character was also getting over a heartbreak from his ex which is why both of them were struggling to get into a new relationship. i think the hurdle here for me as an unironic glenn powell fan is he's already done it and done it so well in a romcom. it'll be impossible for me to watch him in a movie like this without comparing the chemistry between the leads to the chemistry between him and zoey deutch in Set It Up. So if it doesn't look like him and sweeney's vibe alone is strong enough to carry the movie i suppose it won't be for me

I agree with your thoughts on Sydney Sweeney. She's better as the quirky best friend or supportive sister character, but not quite the Leading Lady. Also, I didn't realise until I saw that the leads' names were Ben and Bea that this was a loose retelling of "Much Ado About Nothing."

i wouldn't say she isn't a leading lady. it's a genre issue more than a role issue. glen powell did a great job in another rom com (set it up) and maybe his acting experience aligns more with romance and comedies than hers. i'm sure she could do amazing as a final girl or even a lead in a drama mini series.

I saw the movie too, and you said everything I feel about it too! Glen is the only good thing in this movie because he has genuine, natural comedy talent and a sense of humor, and those of us who follow him since Scream Queens, know it. Sydney doesn't have comedy talent at all, her delivery was stiff and bland. And when you have such a difference in comedic chops between two leads in a romantic comedy that is a giant problem. I don't know if you noticed, but the funny thing is, you can already see in the trailers that Sydney is no good at all in this movie. I remember I commented her delivery is terrible the minute I watched the trailer! 'Anyone but you' is full of cliches and while you can do cliches in a good way, and make genuine, great gem of a specific genre, this is not the case here. The movie is boring, shallow, cringe comedy with typical cringe, over-the-top, not-funny jokes, literally maybe 1 joke on 5 lands. The romance part is badly done as well. The story is just poorly constructed and poorly written. The chemistry is absolutely average at best, just like a normal chemistry between two beautiful people - they are easy on the eyes oh right, but nothing more. They are not Mulder and Scully or Hanks and Ryan. Most of the people who were gossiping about 'amazing' chemistry between Glen and Sydney or about made-up 'real life' romance for months, and who had overdramatic reactions to it all, are either 15 years old, paid trolls spreading propaganda for this movie and for Glen and Sydney, or just some really naive people who know nothing about the movie industry and how promo tours for movies work, and who love Powell and Sydney too much, so they see what they want to see. Glen and Sydney don't have any spectacular chemistry. Anyone who has followed Glen for some time knows that the man is actually very funny, and it goes without saying that he is an incredibly hot and charming guy, so of course when you put him next to the other, beautiful human of the opposite gender in a cute, light movie like this, and various funny promo interviews, you will get 'cute, romantic, warm, great' vibes. But it is nothing more than Glen and Sydney being friendly as co-stars who spent a lot of time together, and who are also very pro about acting during promo/press tours. It's all about marketing baby, and those of us a little older, and maybe also with more knowledge about the movie business, we see all of this very well. If you don't believe me, just type on KZbin Glen Powell and Zoey Deutch, and go watch the interviews with them when they were promoting their 'Set it up' rom-com. Literally the same funny, cute, general, 'romantic' vibes, and also partly thanks to Glen's sense of humor, and his and Zoey's ability to play and show off their friendship and charm, during the promo tour. It's marketing and normal friendship people, nothing more. But after this movie, I definitely think Glen is much better in romantic comedies when paired with Zoey Deutch. Glen has a way better, more organic, and natural chemistry with Zoey than with Sydney, and one reason for it is that Zoey has comedy talent just like Glen, while Sydney doesn't have comedy talent. I saw on Glen's IMDB that he is going to star in another comedy with Zoey, hopefully, better written than this one, so I will wait for it. 'Anyone but you' is not worth your time or your money. It doesn't have the charm, wit, and natural flow that romantic comedies of the '90s or early '2000 had, like She's All That, Love Actually, Holiday, or How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Period. So I totally agree with you!

Powell and Sweeney played up their 'flirting' WAY too much for promo, it made it very clear they were putting it on and it wasn't coming naturally. I felt they didn't have that much chemistry in the film itself, I couldn't understand why I should root for them. A big issue, as noted in this video, is that Powell has the natural charisma for this kind of role and Sweeney doesn't. That doesn't mean she a bad actor, she just isn't suited to this kind of role in my opinion, especially with the characters being so flat

so true, facts! And those of us who understand how promos for movies work, and that actors are acting in these promo interviews as well, plus those of us who are maybe older, and not some immature teenagers who are just overdramatic and losing shit over their favs - we knew this from day 1. All the drama with Sydney and Glen in the summer was such a cheap and obvious marketing strategy, and the other part of it was their younger fans going stupid and crazy. that's all.

I didn’t like this for a lot of reasons (I found the backstory with Bea’s fiance thin to the point of insulting) but largely I didn’t want good things for either of them. But Glen Powell is also not my cup of tea. Attitude plays a lot into whether I find someone attractive and I just find him bland. And he always seems to have a pinched look on his face. Just saw it earlier today. I think it's a matter of perspective. If you look at it "straight" its pretty bad, because every single character is downright buffoonish and absurd. But if you kind of think about like a self-aware satire, where the characters KNOW they are in a rom com and are purposefully acting as if it was some sort of stage play, it works. The issue is that half the cast, SS particularly, believe they are in a serious movie and the other half know that this is meant to be a farce, and it's a weird mix.

First time seeing Sydney Sweeney on a not-serious role and I think she was good, I do think her comedic part worked because of her chemistry with Gwen but apart from that I liked seeing her, and felt empathy towards her character wanting to find happiness and love. I do think some side-characters lines felt out of place but apart from that I had a good time (they are also both hot so that helped lol). I’m going to watch this because I tend to like rom coms and am manifesting more since we have so many books to adapt (“The Unhoneymooners” for example), and the only way that’s going to happen is if we go watch what is out. I think what takes away from the marketability is that, like noted, the actors are so good looking and everything feels okay all the time that this sounds like it’s too perfect to be relatable. Then again, I think most people aren’t in relationships and have forgotten the sensation of falling in love, which is essential for movies like this to work. And if that’s not happening, it’s not going to resonate with viewers as “You’ve Got Mail” or “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” did/does.

Something a little more Hitchcockian thriller that I think Powell AND Sweeney can pull off. Cuz the whole glamorous rom-com look...it just ain't for me.

just watch korean dramas or chinese drama for rom coms ..they are best ..problem with this kind of movies is that we have scrutinised rom coms from Hollywood so much that any thing similar became boring , predictable and seems forced chmesitry , forced comedic gags., that you can't take it seriously .its not at all romantic ... and yo may find powel handsome but he is not charming enough to be lead in rom com ..he looks exactly like another loser white dude from those hallmark movie which will get the hot girl just because he is nice ..nobody will going to buy this now

the scene towards the end where an older, mature adult (mentioned in the movie couple of times) treats the emergency rescue workers and their chopper as an Uber destroyed the whole climax for me. Like - what kind of writer thinks that OK and romantic and that they would even agree to be his private taxi... srsly :)

I really enjoyed this; I watched the Branagh and Whedon Much Ado's before this and I felt like it was a decent modernization compared to some of the plot elements that were clearly hundreds of years old in the straight adaptations. It gave me the same kind of smiles and laughs as 10 Things I Hate About You, and that's pretty high praise. I see its flaws but I had a blast.

I don't know if it's just me but Sydney Sweeney gives me weird vibes. Like if there was a perfect printout of what a young blonde Hollywood bombshell should be, it would be one of her. It's almost as if she's an imaginary construct or something. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.

Me and my bro got peer pressured into going to this movie by two girls in our friend group. We went violently stoned. All four us ended up laughing at all of the romantic scenes and confused by the bad comedy. We had fun but not in the way the filmmakers intended.

Haven't seen the movie but it's wild that opinions are so split. I've watched a few clips, and it seems really bad. It feels like dialogue taken from things people say online, meaning buzzwords. And the acting seems stilted and unnatural, or at least to me. Maybe younger people or girls like how the conversations come across. I would be lying if I didn't think my opinion is the correct one, but I imagine a lot of people who enjoy this are overcompensating because they like the actors or they really are normies who eat up whatever the it thing is that is pushed their way. I mean, I look back at certain movies like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and the screen presence those actors had dwarfs these new actors. It's crazy that people would say the costars have on screen chemistry. Hearing people like this really makes me feel like I'm in the Twilight zone.
