Lovely finds Scott, especially that Deco lamp shade, and the pink Deco set. The candied fruit and peel can be mixed into shortbread or sugar cookies as well as a fruit or Guinness cake. You can use that up quicker than you think. I like Jamaican rum cake where all the fruit and peel are ground fine, and the cakes are fed with rum and fortified red wine for many days and weeks before being served. The candied peel also goes well into Christmas puddings with brandy poured over and set alight, served with caramelised sugar sauce while it is warm.🖤🇨🇦

That candied fruit will keep FOREVER ... yes, wrap it up really well so it doesn't take on other flavors and toss it in the freezer. You could even freeze it in 1/2 cup batches so you can just take out as much as you need without having to defrost it all. Another thing you can do is "brandy" it .... look up a recipe for brandied fruit and you can keep it - pickled in some kind of booze - in a jar indefinitely! My mom had some for years!
@calgram12 сағат бұрын
THIS!!! Then you can make oatmeal raisin cookies, or applesauce spice cookies and toss a bit of your glace'd fruit in, anytime you want. You can soften glace'd fruit by soaking it in hot water, fruit juice, or even a liquor like brandy or rum (yes please!) for a few hours, which will rehydrate it; make it softer and more pliable. Drain off any extra liquid that isn't soaked into the fruit; you can use that for something else. Do show us making your recipe Scott!!

The green biscuit jar is lovely 💚 That old table with the fixes, added oak piece, had character and for 13.00, very cool. I also am curious about the chunky pointy bowl. The deco, pink tinted shade...swoon. You are right, the pink depression glass is the best. Very fun 😊

Over fifty years ago, I used to get English rock cookies at a bakery, and I loved them. They had that small diced candied fruit, and nuts, and were a drop cookie, kind of cakey. Anyway, I miss them, and you should make some. I think I'm one of the last humans on earth that likes fruitcake, the boozier, the better. I'm kind of surprised that you don't collect some Mildred, since it's perfect for your bungalow, and so cheerful. You can never have too many sets of china. The little Delft lamp is charming, perfect for a kitchen counter, or powder room. I love small lamps all over the place. My turkey is thawed, and socking in brine overnight. Tomorrow is pie baking, and cranberry sauce making. Happy Thanksgiving, Scott!

That chevron pattern comes from the ancient kingdom of King Midas. The myth of the gold might have come from the clothes the aristocrats wore which was a type of gold lamae. I loved the candlesticks cant wait to see the new crystals you put on them. Great haul today! The name of the kingdom was Phrygia in central Anatolia. Penn University has been digging there for years in the ancient capital of Gordian.

I know just what you mean ….they were candied cherries I believe in those flat containers and came in all red or all green My mom would get the red ones every year …we would cut them in half and place as a center to the “ flower “ butter cookies that would go through that long cookie press gun ( like a caulk gun for cookie dough !) I haven’t made them in about 10 yrs or so !! Fun memory of Christmas Past !!

Scott, since you are so knowledgeable on old items, I think you are the guy I'm gonna have to email about HOW to remove a lid from a glass shaker I have. It's in a Cruet set. I purchased it years ago but have never figured out how to get the top off without breaking the glass. It's a silver top that I'm sure that they put salt in and never cleaned it properly. I am so afraid to use any type of chemicals on it, I have soaked it in hot soapy water, and it still won't release. I would love for it to be functional. So, if ANYONE has any ideas, please let me know. It is so frustrating. That's why I have wanted you to do a video on cleaning up , removing tape from hand painted items, and such. 😂😂

I empathize about your Mom. My Mom wasn't a teacher, BUT she was big on grammatically correct English. I used to tell her that I spoke good English so she'd stop interrupting me. I went to a thrift shop yesterday. No interesting Depression glass, but I did find a reference book, Gene Florence's Kitchenware of the Depression. Also an excellent condition California Ivy cup and saucer. Those were the everyday dishes when I was a kid, til too many were damaged. I've got the remnants, but cups had a higher mortality rate. Think that frosted shade was for a boudoir lamp? Because of the hint of pink?
