This was a great review, probably the best on youtube for this radio right now. Small screen, no remote head, and made in China...those are my hangups with this rig. That being said, I MIGHT still pick one up, since it's really the only reasonable solution for DMR in a mobile. I really wish Kenwood or Motorola would make a DMR mobile aimed at the Amateure market. One funny observation, your Kenwood D74 sounded really good when doing the cross band demonstration!

This is an excellent well done review. The best I have seen done in the ham radio videos. I have been researching this radio, even though this four years later, it is still relevant. The short comings of the radio of small display is made easier with the optional blue tooth microphone that also has a display screen. Very well done and concise explanation and demonstration of the features. Most reviews of ham stuff is just talking about the item and never really doing anything with it. Great job. I will probably buy this radio even though it’s not made by a mainstream ham radio manufacturer.

best review of the radio so far! thanks. you covered some usability items no one else has! I wish someone would make an aprs radio that would jump over to the APRS frequency, beacon, then jump back to monitoring on the currently set frequency of the VFO so as not to use up the entire vfo just for APRS. because the aprs can easily be Time division multiple accessed with its channel. i bought this radio because of this review and others. For example: 1) full duplex only in FM analougue cross band (one band to listen one to receive); 2) full duplex also in DMR but only cross band; 3) full duplex also in DMR and also in isofrequency (transmit and receive on same frequency using one time slot to transmit, other to receive). There is a group of wide area repeaters I use often when driving from Sudbury to Toronto and back. They are all linked together 24/7 from top of hwy 400N all the way South to Lake Ontario. Awesome group of people and all FM for the long drive. Auto Zone switching would be a tremendous use of the integrated gps.

Anytone has thousend nice functions, but nothing works good. My choice is the TYT. Cheeper and works.

These radios are not very good on receive. To test, try driving through a city or metro area and you will see how the radio easily succumbs to interference and intermod in FM mode. It is actually terrible. You will not hear it in digital mode due to the squelch, but the problem is there nonetheless. A Connect Systems CS800d, while not as fancy looking, has a much better designed front end with double conversion superhet which will outperform the anytone any day.
