I’ve been tryin to find a KZbin vid that actually shows how easy it is to program an analog & digital channel. All the others I’ve watched throw a bunch of other fancy options in & I’m clueless. I get my 878 next wk & am very anxious on downloading the software & updating the firmware. It would be awesome if you made a video on just those 2 items. Thanks

I plan on doing a video on downloading the software and updating the firmware. In the meantime here's the URL to download the latest software, firmware, and drivers for the anytone 878: powerwerx.com/help/software-downloads

Enjoyed your video…. Thank you! My problem is now that I have programmed my AnyTone D878UV, I am trying to get it to connect to my DMR hotspot and it simply won’t respond to the hotspot…. I have a Baofeng DMR handheld 1701 and it programs easy peasy when I setup the hotspot as a System Fusion hotspot running a simplex frequency, connects with no problems! But trying to program my AnyTone D878UV with a digital frequency for say Brandmeister talk group, it simply will not work! Very very frustrating……. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated Josh. Thanks Mark W5HSJ. Corpus Christi, Texas

Hi.. I'm thinking about getting the D878UV radio but before doing so, I downloaded the software (Ver 3.00) just to see how the programming works. I was following your video tutorial on setting up an analog channel. All seems pretty straight forward until I get to the section where you add a zone. I click on ZONE but nothing is shown under NAME. When I created the analog channel, I gave 'analog channel' as the name. So, the question is: why don't I see analog channel displayed under NAME when I click on zone?

How do you know what time slot and color code to use?
@wayne99034 жыл бұрын
the directions to set up this radio are NOT clear on how to set up the com port for your radio-> computer. SCT port program shows COM1, when I use this port - it's a NO GO for writing the update. Called their support section over a week ago -0 no call back. Called again n a Sat , hope they will respond this time or it goes back

So I am new to ham radio and don’t understand a lot just yet, but what is the purpose of doing this to your radio? Is this private channels that you are creating? My main purpose is for me and my wife to be able to communicate if cell phones ect go down.
@chrisbee91644 жыл бұрын
Hi Josh can you put extra channels in that are not technically within the frequencies the radio operates on? For example hair bands or marine band frequencies?
@joshbloom96464 жыл бұрын
No. Not really. Maybe. You can only program in frequencies that are within the radio's limits. But... those limits can be changed. I think you'll find a link on Powerwerx.com website on how to change the band limits of the radio. Until you change the band limits of the radio the software will fail to program frequencies that are out of the currently allowed range.

Can i just enter a frequency in it and talk analog, or does everything goes by programmed memory channel.
@joshbloom96464 жыл бұрын
DMR requires that you set a lot of different parameters. You need frequency, time slot, color code, talk group, and more. You want to program these radios with a computer. This supposed to be a way to enter a frequency from the front panel, but it's always been too complicated for me. I just use a computer. Super easy to enter hundreds of channels at the same time.

Is there any way to import repeaters from Repeaterbook? I know you can do that with other programming software for various radios.
@joshbloom96464 жыл бұрын
Not with the supplied CPS. You might check out the free programming software Chirp or the paid programming software from RT systems. Not sure if they support this radio.

How do you program from the keypad without the software?
@joshbloom96464 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, the DMR radios aren't really meant to be programmed from the keypad. Some claim to be able to do it, but none of them do it will. Technically DMR is a commercial standard so in the commercial world you wouldn't be programming from the keypad. I've never tried because the computer is so much better. To answer your question, I don't even know if it's possible to program without the software on the computer.

Go to Device Manager under Com ports. After you plug in your radio, see what com port it is and select that com port in the programming software.

@joshbloom96464 жыл бұрын
The radio would be set to the same frequency as the hot spot. Normally you would do simplex.

Is it possible to TX on Channel A? I keep getting a "Chan Busy" pop up during our weekly net so I am missing my chance to speak up often..
@joshbloom96464 жыл бұрын
You need to setup your channel to "always allow transmit". That could be one possible cause for your problem. Your is probably set to only allow transmit when the channel is free, or color code free. Set it to "always allow transmit".
@Tracker03314 жыл бұрын
You have to manually put in every single channel?
@joshbloom96464 жыл бұрын
On some radios you do have to input every channel individually. With the anytone you can put in one DMR repeater with all it's zones. Then export to a spreadsheet program and create copies of the first set of channels. For the new zones you would change the frequencies and names. Then re-import into the CPS to program the radio.

I hate that you have to use a computer to program it! For one that travels, it’s a pain to have to drag a laptop everywhere or do everything before you go and not have the option to make any additions or changes if needed when you get there.

So I’m screwed if I have mac?
@joshbloom96464 жыл бұрын
I program on my mac. You need to use Bootcamp or Parallels so you can run Windows on your mac hardware. Most Ham Radio programming software runs on Windows, but for about $20 you can run Windows on your Mac.
@MakedonProductions4 жыл бұрын
josh bloom I see. What about chirp though? I have that.. Is that enough?
@joshbloom96464 жыл бұрын
@@MakedonProductions I have used Chirp before and I think it does run on a Mac. But.... it does not support all radios. If your radio is supported then that's a good plan. Motorola radio can never been programmed via Chirp, and I don't think Chirp supports the Anytone DMR radios yet, maybe in the future.
@MakedonProductions4 жыл бұрын
josh bloom Interesting.... I’m waiting on this Anytone. Plus version. I guess I’ll have to type frequencies in manually for now... Thanks for answering/informing me
