SSI is a universal problem for spine providers and poses a massive burden on the health care system. Although guidelines exist, there is a lack of high-quality evidence for prevention, diagnosis, and management of spinal surgical site infections. We aim, through a case-based discussion, to highlight the controversies, emerging evidence and techniques, and best practice guidelines in the management of spinal SSI.
