Hi, this video lesson was originally meant for students who had taken my DADGAD masterclass. I've now uploaded full tutorial videos with chord charts and tabs where I go through everything in much more detail. A good place to start would be my 'DADGAD Guitar lesson' playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLXeKkuE-o2H0EJQZkZfSXXFYb3GqqaL3a And if you have any questions, just let me know. I'm happy to help 👍

DADGAD has always confounded me.. Now I'm filling in at a St. Paddy's Day gig and have to master it in a week's time.. This was extraordinarily helpful thank you so much!!

Great bit of a lesson, the shapes are very useful, fair play !! If your just learning to back tunes in Dadgad remember rythem is everything. The guitar acts as a rythem instrument alot like a drum would in a trad session. The downbeat actually falls somewhere between the 3rd and 4rth beat. A bit like that mystic offbeat you find in Jazz music. Find that downbeat and actually learn to lilt the tune in your head and finding the Chords and runs will come quite handy. Also work on Dampening the strings for more rythem accents and to allow space for the tune players to stand out.

Looking around on KZbin for some help experimenting with alternate tunings, and to my surprise, here is the guitarist of one of the bands I always make sure to see when I work at the Dublin Irish Festival I Ohio. 😂 It’s great because I’ve spent a good amount of time listening to you play, so I KNOW you know what you’re talking about. Thanks! 😁

Tks for this!! So all those chords are for playing in the key of D? And then for another key you'd use the same shapes but use a Capo? Tks
@aodancoynemusic
@aodancoynemusic 2 жыл бұрын
How are ya TheBejasus! (great name by the way 👍😀) Ya that video is for the chords in the key of D major. The fastest way to get playing sessions would be to stick on the capo and use those shapes for other keys ya. You can play without the capo and get lovely tones too. It depends on the style you're going for. This video is pretty old at this stage. Here's a more up to date playlist of tune lessons. kzbin.info/aero/PLXeKkuE-o2H2n1IdRAybGEOpGFgqeEaRH Hope it helps out. Cheers.

Ha, ya this is pretty old lesson of mine that was originally meant for some of my students. But I've now made a lot of tutorial videos that go through everything much slower if that helps. Here's the playlist link 👍- kzbin.info/aero/PLXeKkuE-o2H0EJQZkZfSXXFYb3GqqaL3a

Hi James, sorry about the delay in reply. I've been away on tour for the past 9 weeks. Ya, some of these stretches can be a bit much, but there are easier ways of getting the same type of tone out of your DADGAD guitar. Here's a good starting point that only uses two finger stretches: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5OTo5l_psmSkM0 Hope that helps. Cheers

This is awesome, I've learnt so much from this. However when you're playing it 'all together', I have 2 questions: How do you flawlessly move between each type of scale? You seem to move back to the bass end to go between each type of scale. Also, how do you get your hands around your strumming pattern and your chord changes, these are freaking fast and would love to maybe buy a book or get some info from you on how to practice that. Cheers, Reuben

I should've said instead of 'bass end' you actually go towards open frets before touching a low or high scale passage. My apologies!

Hi, this is a pretty old video that was originally meant for students who had taken my masterclass. But I've now uploaded plenty of tutorial videos where I break everything down slowly with chord charts and tabs. If there's anything in particular I can help you out with just me know. I'm happy to help. I'm not sure what stage you're at, but this is a fun DADGAD octave trick that I find comes in handy 👍 - kzbin.info/aero/PLXeKkuE-o2H0EJQZkZfSXXFYb3GqqaL3a
