Interesting is there any point of such complication with com ports/screens/etc and not getting just batteries instead, connect them and use invertor to do all charging discharging. It seems that's a gimmick just for beginners, and experienced user can use voltmeter to know all that info. After all you can either buy 5 Kwh of "smart" battery or 8-10kwh of just battery without smart features..

Good question. The comms features do let the batteries talk to the inverter for more than just sharing the State of Charge, which is difficult to guess based only on voltage. The batteries can also tell the inverter things like "hey slow down, I'm getting full".

@@DougKremer i just implemented the "victron" canbus protocol for theese batteries on my python protocol gateway project for monitoring theese batteries. what it sends is dependant on the protocol, canbus sends the least amount of data, and it's basically just... state of charge, health, battery voltage, cell min, max voltage... and i think the besides, soc, the main thing the inverters need / want to know about is the warning flags. --- side note, i find the bms features good for diagnosing and monitoring for my own personal use. graphing cell voltages... this let me know i got screwed over by sok for one of my batteries... almost immediately noticable. partly why i just got some aolithium batteries instead of sok.
