Tomorrow January 7 will be a 2 year anniversary for me after surviving a Type A Dissection. Emergency surgery after I collapsed to the floor at work. A month in the hospital. Replaced my Aortic valve and a week later they discovered my PFO opened up so they installed 2 discs via catheter through my groin to plug the hole. 59 years old and lucky to be alive.

God bless you and I ain't just being trite. I just lost my nephew to this three days ago. He was 35. Went in on Thurday evening, the thing supposedly stopped bleeding (I don't believe that), his mom left him Saturday night and around 3 am, things went south. Cognitive went somehow. Then the kidneys. He threw up and didn't make it to see the sun come up on Monday morning. Again, God bless you. Be blessed.

So happy to hear! I’m just out the hospital at 37 as of 4/1/23 2 surgeries and rehab to walk again! How long after until you started to feel not in pain anymore. I’m 2 months out of surgery and my body feels as fragile as my first day home. I wish there were support groups for us!

How is your dad doing Aimee? My dad also made it through surgery even with severe bleeding caused by an incorrect medication unknowingly given to him by the paramedics. He was in the ICU for 18 days before he passed away. He was a fighter, the doctors were surprised he made it this far. But all of his organs were shutting down because they would try to treat one thing and only end up hurting another. I hope your dad was able to survive he ICU

Had a navel hernia and they found this by chance. I have no symptoms and and by a long shot the youngest person they have seen with this in that hospital. Finding it early may have saved my life. Thank you hernia!

This killed my 68 year old mother august 11 2021. I’ve never heard of this and couldn’t understand what happened. It immediately caused damage to her spinal cord and she wouldn’t walk those 2 agonizing days watching her lay in a hospital and die.

This happened to my mom Dec 2020 survived the surgery and lost mobility in her lower half spent 9 months in the hospital then we got her home for almost 4 years then about a month ago she went in for a bed sore surgery made it through that then just passed away in the hospital a few hours after. She was a tough lady and went through a rough 4 years she was 67.

When I went through this, I was so confused. In the hospital, it would have helped to know that this is uncommon, and that I was on morphine while they were explaining details to me and that was why I might have some trouble understanding what they were saying. I really wasn’t asking for those details about arterial blood layers over and over. I wanted some sense of how serious it was, some idea of why my leg was paralyzed (i still don’t understand that), why my lung was collapsed (still, no idea), if or when I’d better, but somehow my questions kept getting answered by the first minute of this video, … the vein coming from the aorta has blood flow and there’s a tear in the such and such layer so it forms a different layer… and it somehow wasn’t answering anything for me but I couldn’t figure out why or figure out how to ask the right questions. I wanted to know how severely ill I was or wasn’t, or when we might know, that kind of general “how am I” thing. I wanted to know if I was dying or not. There were so many groups of Drs I couldn’t remember who they were. I should have asked for new introductions or something but i was embarrassed I had a Type B Aortic dissection, there was an aneurysm that didn’t burst. I didn’t have surgery. It happened 6 years ago. I regained use of my leg just a few days after the event. I’m not active and I wasn’t active before. I lost weight though and reduced my dose of beta blockers. As far as how life has changed: I have to be careful about my blood pressure not going up , not missing dr appointments, picking up my bp medications on time. I wasn’t being careful before. Once a year, I have to get an extra check up. That’s it.

You and I are in much the same boat. I'm a 66yo white man with a 5.0cm root aneurysm, moderate aortic regurgitation, and a heart that is too stiff to relax fully. Wonder if I can get a new heart? LOL

hello- In September about a month ago I was diagnosed with fusiform celiac artery aneurysm measuring up to 14 mm, which is associated with a limited intimal tear-dissection flap that extends to the splenic artery origin and causes severe focal narrowing at the origin of the common hepatic artery. My doctor is recommending that we do nothing for now and rescan in 6 months. Every place I read, it seems to be moire urgent than that.

Wow, this happened to me a year ago. I woke up with pain in my chest and did not think anything of it and that my blood pressure was high. Later that day the pain came back to my chest and then traveled to my back. Drove to the ER and tests and x-rays were ran. It was discovered my aorta was torn and I bleeding internally. I required emergency surgery and it was discovered my valve was trashed and my heart was enlarged. I had a aneurysm that was going to my neck. I now have a mechanical valve and now take warfin for the rest of my life. Any one deals with the psychological effects that you constantly worry something is wrong with you when it’s not?

Hello, ive recently had a sharp chest pain while climbing stairs then felt weak, both of my hands felt a little bit tingly when i got home and rested it all went away but i still cant do hard physical acitvities like climbing stairs without having my heart pumping hard and feeling discomft for a little while, ive went before and did ECG and blood tests because ive been having palputations fron stress and they said there was nothing im 20yr old and im scared for my life i dont have money to go to doctors and do check ups thats why i need advices, im scared this can be the cause of sharp chest pain, tho i only had that not other pains but i had tempurture drop, felt cold and my hands felt little bit tingly but when i rested n got up and walked it gone away

I think the main cause of aorta dissection is damage of the inner endothilial wall of the vessel. It damages because of oxidative stress. Because of the damage the inner wall looses its flexibility and start to rip off..

I had a type B and they waited to see if I needed surgery or not. I didn’t have surgery. They original event was in 2017. Some people do get surgery though.

@@crumpfyllc5571 I remember too, I had breathing treatments from the respiratory team, I used that plastic thing to breathe out, I was on oxygen for a few weeks because I had my lower lobes of my lungs collapsed. That problem gradually went away.

I believe in Japan they do treat type b with a stent. In the US they still do just the medication. Until it becomes a problem.
