We'll also explore the island's history, which dates back to the early 20th century when Aoshima was primarily a fishing village. As the human population dwindled over time, the cat population grew, and now the cats have become the primary attraction of the island.

How to go to Aoshima, the cat island:
Aoshima Island is only reachable by boat from Nagahama harbor.
The boat has two departures every day, one at 8:00 and the second at 14:30.
The cost is 700¥ over 12 years old and half price for 6 to 12 years old.
It is advised to reach out to the boat around 20 minutes before departure. No reservation is possible.
The closest train station is Iyo-Nagahama. From Matsuyama JR Station, the only possible train will arrive at 7:14 and leave Matsuyama at 5:51.
Return from the island is also only possible twice a day, at 8:45 and 16:15.
Make sure to have some food and drinks with you if you are going to spend the day on the island.
