The Zen’in family is one of the Big 3 clans in JJK, the other 2 being the Gojo and Kamo families. Each family rose to prominence over time due to their powerful inherited cursed techniques (Zen’in has the Ten Shadows technique, Gojo clan has Infinity, etc). A lot of the old heads in JJK are already fairly conservative in the way of upholding traditional values and all, but the Zen’in clan specifically is like the extremely toxic misogynistic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner. The rest of the world just kind of tolerates them since they are one of the most powerful dynasties in-universe. A recurring theme in JJK is old ideologies vs. the new, shown most prominently by Gojo himself and his reason for becoming a teacher to give his students the tools they need to bring about long overdue change. Twins are a bad omen in the JJK-verse so Maki and Mai being born girls AND twins basically meant their lives with the Zen’in clan would be trash if they stayed and that they were never viewed as much more than pieces of meat.

@@sepg5084 the subtitles have not been that great on these videos tbh. I can see how they missed it. In the previous episode where they refer to them as twins, it's showing an image of Todo and Mai standing next to each other, so I think they got the impression they were the twins.

more they show maki/mai dynamics more I love it in manga too....also like gojo said in ep 3 you have to be crazy to be a sorcerer maki is crazy like that but mai isn't. she just wanted a normal life anyway, I love them both sm

In the eyes of the Zenin clan, and other similarly traditional Jujutsu families, having no Cursed Energy means you're "Unfit" to become a Jujutsu Sorcer. So much, to the point that you're not even really a person to them if you don't have Cursed Energy. The reason why they believe and behave how they do, is this: Cursed Spirits can only be exorcised by using Cursed Energy. There is another reason, but I don't remember if they said it already or not, so I won't say it, but look out for it. Add to that, the adherence to traditional roles, "Men are warriors, Women are caretakers" and you have the reason why the Zenin hate Maki and why they're forcing Mai to be a Sorcerer as punishment for Maki.

As a manga reader I have to say Maki is my most favorite character after Yuta...Maki is so badass that it's unbelievable and yes Maki and Mai are twins from the same Clan The Zenin Clan..!!!!

At this Point I would even put Maki ahead of Yuuta :D I Mean Yuuta is a straight Badass without even breaking a sweat - he's literally a born Prodigy and he shows it xD Maki on the other hand is pretty much on the same Powerlevel, but she is such a fucking BADASS about it xD Yuuta just came up with it and Maki just kinda killed 200 People in a Day and became God in the Process - they're both greatly written, but as much as I love Yuuta I just can't deny the MOMMY Energy Maki puts out these days...I mean we like Nobara, but Maki is gonna be best Girl for sure :D

Ok so the Zen'In Clan is actually one of the "Big Three" Clans who currently rule the Jujutsu World. Fushigoro is part of the Clan too (it's basically the People with the cool-looking Black Hair :D ), he and the Maki/Mai Sisters are Cousins. Now, these People are usually born with a Clan specific Technique, like Fushigoro and his Shadow Summoning Thingy, but Maki and Mai were born as Twins, which is basically one Person in two Bodies - at least from the Jujutsu Standpoint. Mai has the unique Technique of "creating Mass out of nothing" (like her Bullets) and Maki was born with 0 Cursed Energy and Superhuman Strengh. Both of these Abilities aren't really as refined as they should be tho, and the Clan therefore hates both of them. They basically should've been born as one very powerful Sorcerer, but were instead born as two "imperfect" Twins. Therefore the Struggles they both had to go through, hinted in Makis' laughable Ranking as a Sorcerer.

It's less that they should have been born as a single powerful sorcerer and more that they are two sorcerers who have extremely lethal abilities that just happen to be mutually exclusive, so their connection means that they end up crippling each other. Mai has a technique with an absurd cursed energy cost, while Maki has a heavenly pact that completely eliminates her cursed energy, and so Mai is preventing Maki from making full use of the pact, while Maki's incomplete pact is crippling Mai's cursed energy production. No one sorcerer would be born with both that ability and pact.

I love that episode so much and while i'm not justifying Mai's actions as she does act like that to protect herself i don't think its right, i still se both sides of the sister's 'drama'. The resentement that Mai's feels is valid she can't help but feel like she's been thrown into this world she never wanted a part of in the first place as curses have terrified her all her life but because of Maki's drive she ended up deeper than ever in it but at the same time Maki is her own person and can't make all of her life decisions based on what would be more beneficial towards her sister. I do believe they stil love each other but at this point they've drifted apart completely and until Mai realises she has to make a choice of her own to pursue being a sorcerer or not, regardless of Maki's choice, they can't move on and reconcile. Its really heart wrenching to watch :(
