Jay-Z on making ‘The Book of Clarence’ after ‘The Harder They Fall’

Jay-Z's moviemaking has moved from the Old West to the New Testament. The rapper-turned-producer backed Jeymes Samuel's "The Harder They Fall" two years ago and is now behind his biblical comedy-drama "The Book of Clarence," starring LaKeith Stanfield.

If you DO NOT believe in Christianity then don’t watch this movie. The director of the movie repeatedly says this is not a movie about Jesus. Look up the 5 percent religion you’ll find out it is a whole religion with nothing in common to Christianity

The general masses will always come down on black art harder than any working artist out here today. This movie is a miracle; it's not about false prophets, it's not blasphemous. It is none of what many have described it to be. It is a faith affirming, life affirming, film about the nature of kindness and faith. How do those two things intertwine with one another? What makes someone Christlike? The Book of Clarence asks and answers these questions in interesting and bold ways. Watch it before passing judgement. That's all I have to say.

I enjoyed it. It's like a 2024 version of a Mel Brooks film or better still, it’s eerily similar to the 1979 film “The Life of Brian”. A satire on the Christ story w/a majority black cast (and African accents) It's even better (I think) If you know the biblical story and the different characters names. If you’re mad or think it’s blasphemous, you may have missed the point. I give it an 8.

Wow a lot of people really don’t see how bad this is. I mean Jesus did leave His sheep people in the world full of wolves and then told us that the one is the ruler of this world so it makes a lot of sense. Think about it; there’s waaaaaay more people that don’t love or believe Jesus vs the ones that do. It’s more vs few and we all should know Jay Z’s stand when it comes to Christ.
