STORYLINE
Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi hosted Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday in a dark-green Bedouin tent that was pitched in a Kremlin park.
Gadhafi, who last visited Moscow during the Soviet era, arrived on Friday with an entourage of defence and energy officials for three days of talks.
Libya was an ally of the Soviet Union, but relations withered after the 1991 Soviet collapse.
Gadhafi's visit highlights Russia's efforts to bolster relations again.
The Libyan leader said earlier Saturday he hopes to increase energy ties with Moscow.
Russia has hoped to persuade Libya to back its plans for a gas cartel that would also involve Algeria, Iran, Qatar and the countries of Central Asia.
Such an OPEC-like organisation could strengthen Moscow's energy leverage over Europe.
Gadhafi is also expected to clinch a series of major arms deals on his visit.
He held talks with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and Putin earlier Saturday.
Gadhafi described the talks as a "continuation of the progress" made by Putin when he visited Tripoli in April.
During his visit, Putin, who was then president, agreed to write off 4.5 (b) billion US dollars in Libyan debt in exchange for lucrative deals in energy and arms.
In return, Russia's gas monopoly Gazprom signed a deal to develop six prospective oil and gas fields in Libya.
In the 1980s, Libya was a major customer for Soviet weapons.
But Russia now faces competition from other former Soviet republics for supplying arms to Libya.
After leaving Moscow on Sunday, Gadhafi is expected to visit Belarus and Ukraine.

I met Gaddafi once in my childhood, he came to the south of tunisia by his car alone with his car to our school, he gave us chocolate and spoke with us and asked us if we would come to work in Libya in the future, he made jokes with us and with teachers, he was so funny and kind, at the time we saw that the event was normal, but when I grow up, I understood that the fact that a president of an other country coming to our village without escort and no bodyguards alone with only 5 guys, at it self is a huge thing.

@@hiddendragon415 Gaddafi was a dictator. But Libya had a healthcare and social system. According to the Human Development Index, Libya was the most developed country on the entire African continent. However the US wanted to "free" Libya and now it is a failed state. United States never really supported protests against pro-American strongmen like Ben Ali, Mubarak or Saleh. But Gaddafi and Assad were pressured. Double standards.

There is NO such thing as a good dictator. But as far as dictators go, Gaddafi was the nicest of them all. He really loved and looked after those who supported him. He gave most of Libyas population free healthcare, free housing, free overseas studying, free electricity and a share in all oil profits aswell as start up marriage aid in the form of a free apartment to all newly wed couples. Plus, he completely eradicated homlessness for 85% of the population. But for the 15% of the population who opposed him life was brutal. Like I said, there is NO such thing as a good dictator. But the Libyans who turned against him were stupid as he was the nicest dictator that ever lived. The Libyans chose Western installed democracy over the very generous benefits of Gaddafis regime. Today Libyans are much worse of as they no longer receive all of the benefits they used to receive before his was overthrown as the funding has been completely cut. Gaddafi regime collapsed, and so did the generous benefits that Libyans received from the regime.

What he did in Ukraine is completely meaningless and Russia has not gained anything from it, except problems that will not only negatively affect her, but the whole world. And all of this could have been avoided 11 years ago, and Russia did not have to provoke any wars or invade any country, just had to raise her beautiful Russian hand in the UN and thus save Gaddafi and Libya and the world would be a much better place today.

@@e.a.poecrnimacak354 nato has already proven the fact that they can bomb any countries without UN sanctions or permissions. Nato and USA been ignoring all Russian requests for years. Just to know one interesting fact, from 1991 to 2007 Russia was a total friend of USA and Europe, had numerous American consultants officially working in Russian government, and when Putin became the president, he asked if Russia could join European Union and nato. EU responded that Russia is too huge for it, and nato said that there will be no reason for nato to exist if Russia joins it. USA been dominating the world for past 30 years and had no competition. Now that will change in few years, as we can see USA losing its partners again and again.

Waiting for the next one. . . tick tock . . . Gadaffi was a big mistake, Libya turned to shit after his death. But in todays world, both sides are bad. It's not a "USA bad and Russia good" or vice versa. They're all looking for power, whether it means people has to die or whatever. Looking for morals and ethics within either, is a waste of time. It's about money and power. As it has always been. The sooner people realize that, the sooner they'll see and understand that most of us aren't that different from each other, as normal people. We want peace, freedom and to live a stable normal life. It's far too primitive to hate someone else because they're not from your part of the world and because some guy with a lot of power and money, tells you to. Hitler was a war criminal. Stalin was a war criminal. Bush is a war criminal. Putin is a war criminal. They all have innocent people's blood on their hands. There's no way around it. They were not and still aren't interested in a peaceful world, they are only interested in their own power and wealth. And the only way they can stay where they are, is by the people letting them and empowering them. It's sad, but true. It's a cruel and unjust world we live in.

Important thing is Gaddafi didn't bow down in fear of his life and continued to stand up for his country till last moment . @@L2ggs the negative effects of his death are there, even a blind man can see, I've talked to many Libyans, all of them overwhelmingly claim that he was a good man, he was killed by Western-funded armed traitors, many of these rebel leaders fled and are living in france, england, some of them were killed and hunted after the betrayal they did

@@L2ggs look at the development index, the faculties, the companies, factories, order that gaddafi and his regime brought, the human development index in libia in his regime was one of the highest in africa, he brought development to an empty land, now libya It's back in the stone age while the west and its allies extract every last drop of resources, the west loves and watches Libya at war while eating popcorn, all according to plan, this civil war carnage is a delight in the eyes of the west.

Not in Syria bro. Its a bit different. Western eu countries sucked so much wealth from Gaddafi. Sarcozy. Jirak, Berlusconi. Gaddafi financed their elections and gave them oil and cash. But western hyienas betryed him . I mean the establishmet bastards. R.I.P general.
