Wrapping up a three-day visit to Chicago Princess Diana charmed the city's socialites by attending a luncheon in aid of cancer patients.
Earlier the princess assumed her favourite role as "Queen of Hearts", paying a visit to the sick and dying at a hospice.
Rounding off her first and highly successful trip to Chicago, Princess Diana was given a rapturous welcome at a luncheon honouring three women who have worked with cancer patients.
The tickets - costing $150, $250 and $350 - were sold out before the invitations were even mailed.
Referring to the talking point of her trip - a dance with American chat show host Phil Donahue at a charity ball Wednesday night - the princess quipped that she'd been impressed.
SOUNDBITE:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd like to reassure Anne that Phil Donahue last night was an excellent dancer."

Outside meanwhile crowds of well-wishers who have made the visit such a memorable event waited anxiously for a glimpse of the princess in what would be her last public appearance here.
The princess thrilled the hordes of fans, crossing the street to shake hands and talk.
Earlier in the day Diana visited the city's Northwestern Memorial Hospice, a reminder of the more serious point of her visit.
Many of the public who had waited a long time outside the hospice to see her were not disappointed.
SOUNDBITE:
"I think she's a very classy lady and I just wish the media and the tabloids would leave her alone a little bit. She's just trying to get on with her life and it's very very difficult for her."
