(12 May 2017) JACKIE COLLINS' JEWELRY, MEMORABILIA, MORE TO BE AUCTIONED IN LOS ANGELES
Jewelry, furniture, art, clothing, memorabilia and more items belonging to late novelist Jackie Collins will be auctioned in Los Angeles next week.
Auction house Bonhams will handle the 1,000-lot sale of the estate of the legendary author, estimated at $3m.
"Jackie Collins: A Life in Chapters" will take place on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 May at Bonhams Los Angeles, giving fans the opportunity to own the jewelry and art that Collins kept in her opulent Beverly Hills home.
Collins, who died in 2015, lived the lifestyle about which she wrote. The sale will provide an exclusive insight into the real woman behind the books, which sold 500 million copies worldwide.
Tracy, Rory and Tiffany, Collins' three daughters, are selling the contents of their mother's estate, but have kept the things that are most important to them.
"Our mother would have been absolutely thrilled with this event," said Tiffany Lerman. "It showcases her beautiful collections. She spent years collecting really beautiful jewelry and artwork and bronze statuettes and just really beautiful pieces that celebrate her life and reflect her personality."
The auction will contain 400 lots of jewelry alone.
"My sisters and I have so many favorites. One of them is definitely a beautiful gold panther Cartier necklace that she bought for herself in the 1980s after she finished her iconic novel 'Hollywood Wives,'" said Tiffany, of her mother's incredible jewelry collection.
The auctioneer plans traditional live auctions on Tuesday and Wednesday (16 and 17 MAY 2017) in Los Angeles, with Tuesday comprising Collins' furniture, fine art, decorative arts and memorabilia, and Wednesday entirely jewelry. When those are concluded, Bonhams will hold a series of online-only auctions in the following days.
A portion of the whole estate will go to charity, but three portraits of Collins will have 100 percent of their proceeds going to specific charities, said Tiffany Lerman.
"The proceeds from the sale of these portraits will be going to three incredible organizations that support women's empowerment: the Malala Fund, Equality Now and WriteGirl. And we love the WriteGirl's motto: 'Don't underestimate the power of a girl and her pen,' which was very fitting considering my mother was very powerful with her pen."
