Native Texan here living in the DFW area. I grew up near Austin and have family and friends there so I'm very familiar with the city and surrounding area. Couple of things to keep in mind when moving here, Texas (or the US as a whole) does NOT invest in public transit so all our cities are car-centric. Like you said in the video, you literally cannot do anything without a car because everything is so far apart. Also, Austin traffic is HORRENDUS, like the type of traffic that will have you standing still for hours, so just be aware of that. Austin is one of (or might be the most) expensive cities in Texas so you will have to pay a premium for where you are looking. I know you want giant windows and a lot of natural light which isn't a bad thing however, keep in mind that Texas is a very hot state. The more windows you have = higher utility bills because your home will be extremely hot. Oh! that's another thing, our utilities are higher here so keep that in mind when running your A/C (which you will need to because fuck this heat). I don't think Austin has many on average but I want you to be aware that we do get tornados every year so please keep in mind when you're looking for apartments. Make sure there is at least one area that will be a good tornado shelter JUST IN CASE. So a room (usually a closet or bathroom) that is not bordering an outer wall or has windows. This is very important, do not overlook this! The BIGGEST advice I can give you is to prepare to have really bad allergies! We have pollen seasons along side regular seasons. So get you a good nasal spray and medication because you WILL need it. I cannot stress this enough lol. Overall, Austin is a beautiful city with a LOT to do for entertainment. You will absolutely love it there and be sure to explore the entire state. It'll be a fun roadtrip! You're right smack in the middle of the state so you're just a few hours away from San Antonio, Houston and Dallas. All cities' with their own unique charm and cuisine that I'm sure you'll enjoy. Welcome to Texas!!!

Seeing the apartments and their finishes, it is very standard for them to look like that here. Between apartments or houses, the better choice is a house.

I think the airbnb idea for a couple of weeks is a great idea as it remove the pressure to take an apartment right away that might not be right for you. Not easy finding a good place! Good luck !!

That's what would be the best option at this point.

What she thinks is dated and old, is like my new and Modern. I’m from Austin Texas and have been to Toronto as well and it’s really expensive over there. Austin is definitely fast tracking there. Good for her for having the income and means to afford that. It’s just surprising to hear the difference in new and modern. I’m very outdated then.. I’ll soon have the income for that too. Definitely goals!

It’s not only Austen. The entire housing market in the US is terrible right now. I spoke to my primary doctor about it today and she said that it’s terrible and there has to be a crash. I spoke to my ob in nov and she says that she and her husband (also a doc) are having trouble finding some place to buy as well because of the high prices. And we’re in south Florida.
@itshoneybii2 жыл бұрын
I think it's a western country issue. Canada housing market is worse than the US. Just look up Toronto and Vancouver markets. What you get for 1 mil will have you crying.

Wow. I had no idea that Austin was so expensive. I guess to be fair, some of these apartments were very spacious (as big as a small house) and with some luxurious looking finishes.

Wow I had not idea apartments were so expensive! My brother and his wife just bought a two bedroom apartment in central London and will be paying £1500 a month. The US housing market is crazy!

This video kind of depressed me. I own a home and our mortgage is less $1000. I would absolutely look into houses. Even if it's not "perfect" you can paint, update hardware, or appliances and you don't have to ask permission to do it. (Unless you live in a private community) the downside is if something breaks or doesn't work you have to take care of it yourself.

My wife and I have been vlogging our house hunting process in south Austin/Buda area, and this market has been wild! We keep getting outside! Lol.

I also thought the apartment you liked best was definitely the nicest one, but holy crap, those prices are crazy for an apartment! Especially when you consider that USD4200 is around AUD6000 (which is also around what we pay for the mortgage of our 4 bedroom house). The property market here in Aus is also crazy, and in many cases, renting a place is more expensive than the cost of servicing the mortgage (although buying a house does have other hurdles such as saving up for the deposit, tax etc). I guess it depends on what you decide to do in the long run, whether buying a place or renting is a better option - both have their pros and cons! I hope you guys end up finding a lovely home :)

The $4,200/month ($50,400/yr) unit was lovely but at that price point, you could probably have a house with more space. Good luck with your search.

Take care that you don't have heat stroke. Texas in winter is pleasant. In summer it can be deadly.

I think apartment 5 felt more "breathable", is that the right word? I mean, with the light coming in & the level of the apartment did not feel suffocating. Gosh, I totally feel you & who doesn't actually? I'm also looking for apartments in Zurich, Switzerland which are modern or else they feel so depressing to live at. Wishing you find it soon ;-;

The depressing feeling is such a realistic issue with outdated units hahaha Good luck on your search! xoxo

I liked apartment 5! But you're right, at those prices it would be more worth the money to buy a house. That is what my boyfriend and I are doing. We live in Ohio but our rent its like $1200 and we're looking at doing a mortgage for $900 sooooooo.... lol

Apartment 5 really was IT but at what cost?! hahaha the inflation in the past year in Austin is outrageous. Houses make more sense here.

Honestly, I personally like the #5 apt cuz it has many windows and that beautiful kitchen has a widow by the sink! There are tips and tricks if the wall has colored or dark, add something like a white art photograph to brighten it up. But when it's spring or summer season it's gonna be really bright hot sunny outside. I think $4,000 is too expensive for a couple, it should be lower like 2,900 for townhouse becuz they have large space, white kitchen or bright bathrm. Have u check in Dallas's downtown? I guarantee u to check it out, there's a hidden gem out there, lots of Asian stores like Daiso, Hmart & food. Austin is very expensive than Dallas bcuz Californias, New yorkers and other states moved to Austin, that's why it's overcrowded & raised the new price up. But keep looking, a house or townhouse might be the choice! I hope you guys will find the right place!

What does your boyfriend do for a living? Beautiful apartments to choose from. You are so lucky! Rent is very expensive here in California. I rent a 1 bedroom 1 bath for $1700…very outdated unit.

Hi love thanks for the question! But honeyboys career is not my place to share on the internet. Thanks for understanding xoxo Rent is super expensive in Toronto as well. Our Toronto home goes for 3,600+ /month for 2 bed 2 bath. Cali prices are really similar to Toronto. Our previous 1 bedroom apt was 2,300 X(

Ya.... It was shocking being there. Hardly any masks anywhere lol.
@TheAdventuresofColtRian2 жыл бұрын
If anything everyone is very anti masks in the red states and rural areas 😬 Many states, if they had one, nixed mask mandates in late 2020/early 2021. Since then I don’t really see masks unless a certain city or business is requiring them.
