I'm surprised at the rating for the clip from Nope. While chimps in the wild are not like this at all, that's not the context for the clip. The movie is focused on the themes of trapping and confining wild creatures for entertainment and profit by humans. And instances of violence by chimps in captivity, especially when people keep them as pets, have happened and have been extremely violent and deadly. So I understand not wanting to condone an image of chimps as violent and deadly and dangerous when in the wild as they should be, but I don't think that the evidence agrees that chimps are totally safe when kept as pets or entertainment.

the attack was unique and unusual and the result of Travis's lifelong abuse and isolation. Xanax can have the adverse effect of agression. His case is really sad and tragic. I have no idea why anyone would want to have a damn chimpanzee in their house, it should be severely punished. This attack would not happen anywhere but in this specific case. No ape should be kept as a pet. Honestly he was innocent and the tragedy is the fault of the deranged owner, he was a wild animal. @mateiyu-40828 ай бұрын
The chimp scene from "Nope" getting a 0 is kinda off the point I'd reckon. I used to work in a French school in DR Congo, and one of my colleague was only a teacher to pay the bills. His and his wife's main focus was a chimp' sanctuary. So basically he would try and rescue chimpanzees in the area, mostly young ones who had escaped poachers, some who had escaped hunters, and adults who had been taken by rich idiots as pets. Those last ones were the worst, and most dangerous. He used to tell us of one chimp' in particular, who had been abused so much he was half mad by the point he rescued him (dressed in human clothing, not enough space to live in, bad food for a chimpanzee, alcohol, and even cocaine...). One day, that particular individual escaped from the sanctuary, and began a frenzy through the city : crossing roads, throwing things at cars and people, running wild in the streets... He ended up in the maternity ward of the local hospital (a half-crazed chimpanzee on a frenzy in the middle of cradles...scary thing !). The police wanted to shoot it, they were discouraged from doing so. Eventually, he charged my colleague, full speed. The dude stood his ground, hands on hips, and the chimp' just stopped, which gave a vet' enough time to finally aim right and tranquilize him. Earlier, when his wife had tried to calm down the animal, he had bitten her on the face, and luckily she "only" had a single serious cut (which gave her a small scar). They told me an angry chimpanzee could break a human skull with his hands if it wanted to... Most of the times, what they found were dead or wounded chimpanzees when those encountered poachers or hunters, but sometimes the poachers would actually be killed, and apparently what a band of angry chimps' do to a human is not a pretty sight. All in all, treating a chimpanzee, with the strength is has, as anything other than an actual chimpanzee, is a very bad idea, and someone getting hurt is then only a logical result. So the movie might not sell us the "good ape" side of the story, but the chimp's behaviour in that instance kinda makes sense...
@LodedKingpiin8 ай бұрын
i think her point was to prove that they aren’t like that by their own volition. i agree that it is against the whole video to further her agenda. a tortured chimpanzee which is made to be a party trick is certainly capable of that, as you explained.

For both species, the more aggressive males had more mating opportunities. They also noted that female bonobos and chimpanzees are not passive and also display aggression, the researchers found that male bonobos were more frequently aggressive than chimpanzees. Overall, bonobos engaged in 2.8 times more aggressive interactions and 3 times as many physical aggressions. While male bonobos were almost exclusively aggressive toward other males, chimpanzees acted aggressively toward females as well as males. Chimpanzee aggression was also more likely to involve "coalitions" of males, rather than just one on one violence.

I love primates, and learning things I never knew when watching this video was amazing! Thank you Mireya!!

She’s wrong about Chimps in the Nope clip

I always hate when experts are like " they are not naturally violent " With animals, groups or people with conditions... the movies almost always make it clear these are unique circumstances Just because the average gorillas pretty chill means nothing regarding kimg kong reacting violently when he has been kidnapped

she is not reviewing them based on the clip shes giving ratings based on her ethical beliefs

I respect her giving the film 0/10--she brought attention to the issue of monkeys in the entertainment industry, and, ya know, I needed to hear that. Learned a lot--thank you!

I think she's a bit to biased in her love for apes which is valid.. but I wouldn't say chimps are not prone to violence probably one of the most violent apes. seen documentary where they brutally fight between themself and attack and kill other chimps brutally to the point of torture and than most horrific attacks on humans were also done by chimps.. I enjoyed the video for the insight and knowledge about apes but the rating system was off..
@janechoy20738 ай бұрын
I think the video would work a lot better without the numerical rating because it is unclear if Mayor is rating based on her preferences for the movie / scenes or based on how realistic the scenes are or how probable she finds the scenes.

Animal aggression because of human interference/exploitation/abuse is one of the theses of Nope. Boo for completely missing the point.

I don’t understand why she’s saying how good some of the animals look in the movie and then writing them zero

I watched a KZbin documentary presentation of an unusual circumstance of baby chimpanzees interacting/playing baboon babies and their troop. The mother chimpanzees kept a close eye on the interaction until it became slightly more aggressive. Playtime broke up.

That scene from NOPE is actually inspired by a horrible event that took place back on 2009 where a woman was brutally attacked by a chimpanzee.

Sorry Insider, but not your greatest guest. Not because of a lack of logic but a lack of consistency!

The information: informative The ranking system: meaningless, contradictory, emotional, lacking context, and in many cases, not related to "how real is it?"

I remembered when i used to work as a zookeeper, I'm in charge for the reptiles, so i didn't know much about apes but once i saw they're fighting and one of the ape just help his hand up and all of them went quiet. It's an interesting thing to observe.

I find it really interesting that she says it's impossible for a human to be raised by gorillas, yet there are two(?) documented cases of two separate individuals being raised by wolves. I wonder why that is?

In the Planet of the Apes movies, I interpreted the change in their eyes looking more human was to make them appear more intelligent to the audience. Also, Koba was a severely abused test subject by humans. Although he is portrayed as a bad guy, his anger is well earned.

So what I learned today is that when we make movies about animals doing things those animals have never done, like take over the world, those movies aren’t realistic. Say it ain’t so.

It’s funny that her bias gives Tarzan a 10 which she admits a gorilla could not raise a human child, but gives planet of the apes a 2, knowing it’s about genetically modified apes… interesting

Take it easy lady. King Kong is just a movie. It ain’t supposed to be real. 3/10! Crazy
@ek95096 ай бұрын
I think you should have checked out the other 2 King Kong films. There’s the original from 1933, and the bizarre (but fun) remake from 1976. In both of those films, Kong’s size changes throughout the settings. Like, in the original, he’s 18ft on his home island (known as Skull Island after its most famous mountain), and 24ft in New York. The director made this decision so Kong could stand out amongst the skyscrapers that NYC is known for. And, in the ‘76 remake, he’s 42ft on Skull Mountain Island, and 55ft in NYC. Plus, he climbs the original World Trade Centre instead of the Empire State Building.
