Some Qs for you...Do you like a Turret on the first stage, and if so, why? Have you ever felt like a reg reduced your WOB/SAC?
@_Sinsear_3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I love the swivel for several reasons, firstly because I run doubles like you stated. Secondly, the turret is essential when you’re using this reg on a stage/deco bottle, which again I regularly use (I’m a tech and cave diver).

@@_Sinsear_ I'm gonna get a swivel on my primary, for sure. I have a bit of pull in my mouth. I do like first staqe turret for stage tanks as well.

I have five years 350 dives on the MTX-R reg set same unit (minus the adjusters on the 2nd stage). I dive a lot of cold water lakes in Seattle and it’s always been butter smooth breathability. Cold water rated: MTX-R 0.5-55 C. 32.9 F - 131 F MTX-RC 1-55 C. 33.8 F - 131 F I have dove my MTX-R in 44 F 6.6 C and zero icing issues no free flow. Total non issue. I have used this reg on a single steel 100cf cylinder and the turret is a non issue. Ports are in great positions. I may add two MTX-R reg systems onto my new twin set as I am a working diver in cold water and this reg set absolutely keeps up! The easiest way to pop off the white rubber end cap is as follows. Get a small flat bladed screwdriver and insert it through one of the side cut outs of the cap. Get the blade of the screwdriver into the middle of the cap and pry up to disengage the center of the plug. It will be enough to remove the center of the plug from the Allen bold hole and release the outer edges of the cap and the cap will pop off easily with out busting your fingernails! Cheers, #SeattleRingHuter

The swivel turret is a very nice to have in sidemount configurations for hose routing.

I got myself a pair of Deep6 Signatures (since I can source the parts directly with the supplier and service them) and I am loving them. Since I dive sidemount, turrets really make my life easier! I can't really tell if my SAC dropped, but the WOB is light-years ahead of the rentals that we got from before. Balanced 1st and 2nd stages are definitely worth the "premium"!

I’ve heard those are good regs.

Ive been diving for about 5 years now and the best reg I ever had was made around 1989. (31 years old!) My best guess is that the surface area for the diaphragm is HUGE relative to most regs so it makes it easier to breath... Maybe? I've never tried an Apeks regulator but I've never really heard a bad thing about them.(other than the price) I know at our shop Apeks and Aqualung elite regs fly off the shelves.

Putting together my first setup. I'm getting two Apeks MTX sets with a rubber long hose (2.1m) and a MiFlex short hose for my backup, and a rubber hosed SPG/DG console. I'll keep the second first stage for when I ultimately progress to doubles or sidemount diving. Also going the BP&W route with a SS BP and a single tank adapter. Still debating whether I should go for the 30lb or the 40lb wing.
@DiscoveryDiversTokyo2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a nice setup. 30lbs is enough for me, even with drysuit setup/weights. If you are a big guy who will need a lot of weight, dive dry, and use large steel tanks, these are factors that might push you toward 40.

@@DiscoveryDiversTokyo A year on, and this is my setup: 2 MTX first and second stages in a 2.1m long hose setup. Secondary second stage is on a bungee necklace. Brass & glass SPG with a black dial. All bolt snaps replaced with XDeep NX's. Stainless steel backplate with a WTX-D40 PSD wing with an STA. Attached 4 cutting devices: - Two EezyCut Trilobites - One set of trauma shears - One Spyderco Salt serrated folding knife. Two lights: Primary is the Apeks Luna-X umbilical, and backup is the Luna Mini. Two dSMB's: an orange and a yellow. Three spools: a 15m, a 30m Halo, and a 60m. (I only bring one or two, depending on the dive.) Wet notes with a Pilot Croquis automatic pencil. No metal parts, and doesn't need sharpening. And the Fourth Element Tech Shorts to stuff it all into.

Got this for my first reg set however for the octo I was only able the get the mtx-c without ventury. Got a killer deal with my dive store as I've done some volunteering for them. Its big but should last me for a very long time cause I baby it lol

Is it worth taking an interest in Apeks? How does the rotating first stage work?

Im about to buy my first reg.. and this is also one of my considerations.. before that, may i know if you have any experience with poseidon xstream deep? If you do, do you mind sharing your views? Thank you!

I have a question: how does the first rotating first stage work?
@cberni164 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, do you prefer rubber to flex hoses?
@DiscoveryDiversTokyo4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Chris. Great Q. I usually go with the flex hoses these days, cuz they're so prevalent and the cost is becoming comparable now. They're about reached commodity level However, there are plusses to both, so I really don't mind either. Flex hoses are certainly lighter for travel, though I'm not convinced they last longer as I've seen claimed. I've had both fail or near fail, especially the HP hoses. The downside of flex hoses for me is on the long hose. It can have memory flex or twist in directions I'm not happy about, and the outer fibers eventually break and are very rough, which can scratch my neck in warm weather (no hood). Those sharp bits need to be clipped with a nail clipper periodically, extra maintenance. If no long hose, I'd not be able to think of any significant downsides to the flex hoses. What are your thoughts so far?
@cberni164 жыл бұрын
Agree with your summary and have had similar experience. The only rubber hose I have remaining is my dry suit inflator. I have found the flex hose Diverite carries is better than others (not a sponsored comment). Their strands seem to be smaller diameter and different and tighter weave pattern. After 100 dives my hoses haven’t frayed when others have after 50. Your mileage may vary.... Sorry had to throw that in for you. Keep up the good work.
@DiscoveryDiversTokyo4 жыл бұрын
@@cberni16 Lol...thanks for the added thoughts! You know I might have noticed the strands have gotten finer...and maybe less likely to break.

How is your experience with MTX-RC so far? I’m really torn between Apeks MTX-RC vs Scubapro MK25 A700/S600. What do you recommend?
@pricediver2 жыл бұрын
I have a SCUBAPRO A700. It breathe really good. MK25 is not environmentally sealed. I would do with MK 19 with A700 in DIN version. Also, i think the work of breathing with MTX-RC is a bit more than A700. but i highly doubt that you are going to notice it underwater.
@manuelperez44174 жыл бұрын
650 € is very very expensive for only the first stage and 1 second stage, the xtx50 is half price vs mtx-rc and the atx40 is the third. Those regulators have similar performance like MTX-RC, depend the you configuration you need or not torrent rotating, some people prefer the rotating for rout the house more easy, i dont like the rotating, for me is another point for possible faul or broke.
@DiscoveryDiversTokyo4 жыл бұрын
I’m with you, Manuel. Not a fan of turret, and I was able to score this reg reasonably. Normally, I’d go with a more budget option. ATX and XTX are fine for me.
