Very cool, as someone who's been running heavy american cars for a long time I have gone through several sets of flow formed wheels from other brands due to stress failures resulting from track use that typically originate on the inner lip. I have a set of the SM-10s in 18x12 on my grand sport and if i ever need to upgrade it will be the SM-10RE for sure. For anyone who doesn't know, the "competitor" wheel is a Titan7 TS-5.

There’s certainly a lot more to be covered. Our emphasis was on the largest problem we see plaguing the community, which is that there are fashion wheels masquerading as performance wheels. Performance is measurable and comparable. It’s not based on anecdotal evidence. We have a lot more topics to cover before enthusiasts can really start to connect the dots.

I love Apex but this is a tough sell for me. With my bone stock 3800lbs ZL1-1LE, I just ran a 1:26.5 at NJMP Thunderbolt with my regular SM-10 wheels - the cheap ones, running Pirelli DH slicks. That time puts me at the back of a TA-2 pro Race. So I'm not sure I can justify the price tag for this new kit. However, if you are new to the wheel market, then definitely it's worth consideration. Thanks for the feedback. We haven’t done a video like this before and we debated how deep to take it for a wheel line launch. Some graphs had to share two unrelated data points such as stress levels and load rating, We wanted to keep that digestible. We do plan on releasing other technical videos on a variety of topics where we can go deeper and spend more time absorbing and clarifying graph data and put more detail into the graphs. We did make sure to note 0 on each scale to prove that we weren’t just showing off the tops sections of bar graphs.

Are there any fitment issues with the thicker inner lip in 19x11et48 sizes on the rear of the GT4 with larger aftermarket toe links such as the TPC? It was already very close on the sprint line et45 rear wheels
@apexwheels9 ай бұрын
Great question, the answer is the TPC rear toe link does not work with the 19x11"ET48 Enduro or Sprint line wheels. The TPC toe link is an incredible piece of engineering that shows a clear reduction in toe change throughout the range of rear suspension travel, the downside is the attachment point at the wheel upright is very similar to the OEM unit and therefore does not provide additional clearance for the reduced diameter 19x11" rear wheel. For someone looking to stick with the TPC toe link, one of our 19x10.5"ET44 sprint line wheels is the best choice or you can opt for a Tarett motorsport-style rear toe link which works with the 19x11"ET48 Sprint and Enduro lines wheels.

@@apexwheels So I’ve managed to crack the inside lip of 4 OEM GM rear wheels on my Grand Sport, in 45K miles of normal daily driving. Not even spirited driving either, and I don’t track it. It’s really annoying. Very common issue with this car by all accounts. I just want something that can withstand normal everyday hazards like any other car. I was looking at your Sprint Line for the last few days, but this Enduro seems like something that would give me 100% peace of mind. I didn’t even realize you were coming out with it. I was looking at doing an 18/19 setup with the Sprints, to give it an extra inch of rubber to cushion the wheels as well. But honestly, now, if I got OEM 19/20 sizes on this Enduro, I could just transfer my current tires over, which are pretty much new. I feel like that new inner lip would definitely hold up. I was experimenting with the 18/18 setup earlier, seeing if I could get a more full Motorsport look if I did get the Enduros, 295/35 and 345/35, because I really don’t like how most 18/18 setups actually use a shorter tire than the OEM. Way too much wheel gap for my liking. TLDR: 18/19 or 19/20 would be nice. There’s a ton of Grand Sport owners who don’t track that just want a wheel that isn’t going to crack. I’d buy a set of 19x10 & 20x12 Enduros right now if you had them, so I could keep my current tires. Would still consider doing a 18/19 though.

@BScalise979 ай бұрын
@@brisso_cs lol, Tampa. I drive a lot for work. Takes me to random places in the area. Roads are hit or miss here. We have millions of new people coming to the here and these idiots in charge still can’t figure out how to get enough tax money to keep up with the infrastructure needed.
@apexwheels9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! OEM wheels cracking is unfortunately an all too common issue on C7 Corvettes. The great news is that any of our forged wheels should be a significant improvement for you, and you should feel confident that something like our Sprint line will be more than strong enough to hold up to the rigors of daily use. Our Sprint line wheels have a reinforced lip, which you can read more about here: apexwheels.com/blog/technical-discussion/meet-the-stronger-apex-sprint-spectm-inner-lip The Enduro line has an even beefier lip, which has many benefits, but isn’t a requirement for normal day to day driving. Just as you wouldn’t buy soccer cleats to play basketball, it’s important to choose the right wheel for your needs. The Enduro line is focused on maximizing on-track performance, and their feature set and available sizes are tailored to that. No center cap support and very wide fitments are key things that may not make them the ideal solution for a street car. Tire sidewall size also plays an important role in protecting the wheel, so a common recommendation is to go down in diameter to have the best wheel protection possible. The 18x10" ET32 front and 19x12.5" ET55 rear in the Sprint Line would be a great option for you, with plenty of tires to choose from.

How do these thicker spokes still clear 6 pot BBK?
@apexwheels9 ай бұрын
We laser scan each application and use the available space to the max (up to our safety limit). If you’re comparing to the Sprint line wheels, they were already created for high stiffness and have similar depth of spokes. The Enduro line gets a lot of its load rating strength from using wider spokes.

Are these made in USA
@apexwheels9 ай бұрын
All Apex wheels are designed by our in-house team of engineers in the USA, and then manufactured by various partners overseas in Taiwan, Malaysia, and China. We even designed the forging dies that stamp out our raw blanks, instead of buying the standard ones others use. How a product is made, not where it’s made, determines its quality. Besides controlling QC and engineering, we do independent validation tests to hold our partners and ourselves accountable. Our flow formed wheels are independently tested and certified by the VIA in Japan, and all of our forged designs get sent to STL or ITS in the USA for testing to our higher performance standards. There are wheels out there that absolutely do cut corners, and the issues are rampant across the industry (US based brands included) but few people understand it. If you really want to understand our values then check out the Real Performance page on our website and look into the industry myths. You’ll be asking brands a lot more than country of origin after that. apexwheels.com/realperformance

Love to see it, strength is more important than a few pounds of weight. But here's my honest opinion, constructive criticism. I would never buy a wheel without center cap mounting. Unless it's a dedicated track car, the wheels spend most of their time on the street, and I'd prefer to cover the rusty axle stub up. Rusty even on brand new cars. We should always have the choice of running or removing a center cap. I know the TE37SL did it first, but I consider it absolutely inane on there too.
@apexwheels9 ай бұрын
We really appreciate the feedback. There was a ton of internal debate on this topic, and the hardcore crowd won. P.S. Some of us spray paint our hubs black with a rattle can to hide exposed hubs as many of us have been running capless for ages 😉

What's the margin for error if each company calculate the strength of the wheels differently. Or would this be impossible to tell.
@apexwheels9 ай бұрын
It’s impossible to say. When you say margin for error, we assume you mean safety buffer, which can completely very from brand to brand. In a perfect world, you would be able to directly compare load ratings of two different wheels and get a decent understanding of the comparative strength of the two. However, oftentimes marked load ratings are overstated and unverified - as you can see, in order to make a confident comparison we needed to 3D scan and reverse engineer the wheel in question. The best way to verify that a wheel's advertised load rating is accurate is to ask for independent 3rd-party verification of the wheel's performance, whether that be in the form of a test report from a 3rd party, or a KBA or VIA registration number indicating that a regulatory body has verified the wheel.
