it a mad deceptive n tricksy beat: it poses itself as a typical quasi boom bap hiphop pattern but tha cowbell n all but tha first kick in each measure is, im p sure, on off 32nd notes, but tha support of tha hihat pattern makes it SEEM natural & familiar. alot of peeps think RDJ is a compositional genius: i disagree wit such wholesale idealization, but i would argue he pretty brilliant musical illusionist no cap. sooooo many of his jams feature sleight of hand of dis nature

@ Richard is really good with hi-hat work that most people would overlook. Those hi-hat hits are a mixture of actual hi-hat ticks (regular tip-of-stick hitting) and also the hi-hat closing sound. Correctly using the hi-hat closing sound is not only really smart drum-wise because it's the under-utilized left leg which you can interlace with the right hand to make things sound faster but it is also kind of like a reverse hi-hat sound because there's usually the capture sound of air escaping between the two cymbals while it clasps shut It's on that level of things where you hear it, feel it, but don't even notice, and thus you can psychologically say it was a success because it doesn't just sound 'right', it sounds good. cheeers
