API Accu Clear | Does It Work?
I have heard mixed reviews on this product, so naturally, I needed to try it myself! API Accu-Clear worked GREAT for me. Typically I use Seachem Flourish Excel for a cloudy or green aquarium, but it just wasn't doing the trick this time! The API Accu Clear dosage was also smaller compared to the Flourish Excel.

@@cleasnclkeasn9448 No, a bacterial bloom is a reaction to your water parameters being off. I would not suggest using this product if you’re thinking you’re water is cloudy due to a bacterial bloom. 20% water changes every other day would be your best bet to help the tank stabilize. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions! 👍🏼

I had the same experience. I set up a new tank with Stratum and sand and couldn't get rid of the cloudiness even with multiple sessions with an old Vortex diatom filter. One dose of Accu Clear fixed it. (I also run an inline UV sterilizer which prevents green water.)

How do you add substrate
@EleanorPeterson
@EleanorPeterson 5 жыл бұрын
@@visionary6498 - Hi! The actual pouring of it into the tank is not the problem. The problem is not rinsing it in a lot of clean water first. The fish-shop guy was obviously proud of the product, which must have had 'pre-washed and ready to use' or something printed on the bag. Don't believe the hype! Everything that goes into your tank needs washing first. Even your hands! Sand and gravel substrate needs to be rinsed in clean water until no more muck comes off it. It could take 15 minutes with a hosepipe, pouring the stuff between two big buckets. When no more dirt comes off and the water's perfectly clear, give it a final rinse in water taken directly from the tank. Leave it 5 minutes, then drain it again. It's now ready to go into your aquarium. Tipping it gently out of a submerged bag (as shown in this video) is perfectly fine; the main thing is to have given it a really good rinse first. :-)

A good video. Thanks! In support, I'd like to say that I too have found this to be a really effective product. I keep some White Cloud Mountain minnows and a large 'herd' of 20+ bronze Corydoras catfish in a 150 litre tank (that's 33 UK gallons or 40 US gallons); they're busy, fascinating, peaceful, delightful little guys, but they do make it difficult/pointless trying to use a gravel vacuum/syphon to clean the tank's [swimming pool-filter grade] sand substrate. (The tank also contains a lot of Java fern, bogwood and has a partial carpet of catappa leaves.) Basically, the catfish have such a ball churning things up that there's never any solid visible waste or poop to remove. Crud gets chomped and dispersed so thoroughly that it dissolves into the tank water; the external canister filter (an Eheim with an air diffuser outlet) does a great job, but sometimes an ultra-fine brownish-yellow haze (dirt, not tannin!) stays in the water. I admit that I have a tendency to overfeed my fish, which can cloud the water with nitrate issues. Anyhooo, rather than changing the filter wool virtually every day (all that disturbance is bad for everything), or use super dense wool pads to catch the micro-particles (tightly-packed fine wool reduces filter flow too much), I use Accu-Clear if things get too cloudy. It tends to be maybe once every three months. The product clears the water beautifully, doesn't clog the filter wool, and over 5+ years has meant that I've only needed to do a 33% water change and filter clean once a month. Everybody wins! Accu-Clear has no adverse effect on the fish, and the dosage is remarkably small, so don't be put off by the tiny container - it's potent stuff. My cuddly Corys and I recommend it. ;-)

I don't know if anyone has an answer to this question, but I was curious about using API pond accu-clear in an aquarium. Since the normal dosage is 0.25 cup per 600 gallons, the dosage per 1 gallon would be 2 drops.... the question is, is this product safe to use in an aquarium setting? It's safe for fish, obviously for ponds, so would it work for a goldfish in a 40 gallon? Thanks

How's it going, I've recently utilized this conditioner on my 26 gallon tank during the last water change, which was on the 19th of this month. I've also placed in Stress Coat _10 milliters Aqua Essentail_5 Milliliters, and salt one table spoon. Then I added 5 milliters this. This stuff seems to be making my tank very cloudy! When I would use only the other two it would clear up in about a week and half. But I have 12 fish so it would cloud up again in three weeks. I was trying to keep it crisp till the next change. The instructions say apply weekly. In your vid you applied in three days. Could this be the problem? I apologize for so long.

@LongIslandFishGuy 3 жыл бұрын
No need to remove him, but if the brine shrimp is what made it cloudy it’s suggest a water change. If brine shrimp has been in the tank for a long time it may also cause ammonia to build which would also cause a bacterial bloom. I know these are a lot of new terms, but there’s many possibilities for cloudy water

Ah here we go! Ok so I have a topfin Powerfilter sf20 I think. Its just one of those tack on filters that come with their 5 galls. Anyway. Got a 9 gal. I know its NOT a bacteria bloom because I used established water. And it was really clear before I put in API accu-clear. I though I could get “glass grade” water and really should have done more research. Turns out you need good mechanical filtration for the API AC because it clumps. After a few hours it looked like a blizzard. So I swirled it around and after it settled still the same. So I did two 45% seperate water changes. There is no longer enough of the API AC to make it look like snow. But the water is not clear. Its like white tinted. I have white lights but I looks like white water not what it did before, and a lot of white stuff is sticking to my moss and plants. I did buy today online a Fluval Aqua Clear 30 filter. It says it has mechanical filtration. But I’m really really beating myself up over what I did

Some would say it’s the restaurant, some would say it’s the person who recommended the restaurant. I mean after all, you wouldn’t even have gone to that restaurant if that person didn’t tell you about it! What YOU’RE suggesting is that it’s the person who is eating the food or listening to the suggestion is “wrong” or at fault.... I’m gonna assume you get a lot of flack for being “wrong” at your fish store. Maybe you’re not giving the right advice? 🤷🏻‍♂️
