I loved Matt's contributions to this - when comparing the API types he always took a step back and said the classic "it depends".

REST is not an official standard or a formal specification. I wish it was. As a result organizations end up managing a directory of silo endpoints which tosses all fields in a payload whether you need them or not.

if you focus on speed, you get a ferrari. Highly unusable in the city If you focus on data, you get a truck. Not fast. If you want to get around, get a car to start with, and adjust accordingly. Rest is uniquitous because it can. If your architecture is the size of facebook or google, there's a 99,99% chance you screwed up. Those architectures are tailored to fit their needs, which are different to what almost everybody's needs are. grpc sounds nice, but is shit to see what is actually being sent

The topic is really good, but I felt that Matt McLarty can perhaps organize his thought slightly more. I often had to turn up the volume or rewind because I can't really hear what he was slurring or speaking about. Perhaps it's the mic, I can't hear him well sometimes.
