It's mind blowing to realize they're just doing all of this with cellos and drums! Meanwhile every other rock band sticks with the overhyped and overrated and overused guitars! Guitars are a really shitty instrument, cellos are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyayyayyayyayyayyayyayyy way cooler! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) hahahahahaha! JK, guitars are definitely nice instruments. Still though, why not go beyond that? Apocolyptica doesn't need them guitars. I do have an interesting thought about that though: You know how they use the distortion and all that, which makes people say "hmm, that sounds like a guitar!", right? Well... I don't necessarily think they're trying to "imitate" guitars with the cellos. I don't think that's really the goal. Rather, I'd say it's simply a cello being run through distortion and other effects, and it's different from the acoustic cello, same thing as having a guitar run through distortion and other effects and it's different from the acoustic guitar. It's not about one instrument trying to imitate another. I think the thing with distortion is that it's become so ingrained into popular culture as being a guitar-type thing; you hear the word "distortion" and you immediately think, "ah, yes, electric guitars"! I guess it makes sense because distortion is most commonly associated with guitars, but I say you can have an electric cello just as much as you can have an acoustic cello, and you can have an electric guitar just as you can have an acoustic guitar. Plus, I think distortion sounds very cool on a bowed string instrument! :)
