Apocalypto waterfall scene rescore

Done as part of my coursework at DKIT this term. For my Music in Film class, I had to pick a film scene and rescore it with different music. Because I LOVE Apocalypto and this scene in particular, I picked that. The lack of music here was ideal for putting music to it and after listening to a few different soundtracks on my iPod while watching it, I landed on the Game of Thrones soundtrack by Ramin Djawadi. I used 3 different tracks as leitmotifs here; "The Assassin's Dagger" as Jaguar Paw's fear-driven theme, "North of the Wall" as the theme of the chase and urge to run and "Three Blasts" as Zero Wolf's rage driven theme.
Anyway, if you haven't seen the film, you owe it to yourself to watch it. It's fantastic. And buy the GoT soundtracks while you're at it!

I Remember my Husband Adam had rented This Movie when he came home from work, we had dinner, put the kids to bed, Adam and I would go to the Living Room, turn the Dual VCR and DVD Player On, I would get a bowl of Hot Popcorn, Two Candy Bars, and Two Pepsi Sodas, Adam would put the movie in, he would sit down on the couch beside me, I would give him the candy bar and the Pepsi Soda can, we would have the big throw blanket over our legs, He would have his arm around me, he would push the play button, and over the next few hours we would sit there in spellbound silence, This Movie was Unbelievable, from Start to Finish, I had to cover my eyes on most parts of the movie, Adam and I would laugh at the part when that tree was falling beside that guy, when He and his men were leading the captured men and women, after leaving the children alone at the river crossing, I thought that the tree was going to kill him.

'Masterpiece' might be something of an exaggeration, no? It's all blood and gore, and rather limited narrative. At least Gibson got to live out his violent fantasies and bloodlust. My favourite scene in the movie is actually towards end when they run into the Europeans, just having discovered America, now rowing ashore from their great ship. How alien that picture seems to the natives, and just the historical significance of it, and the clash of cultures. A powerful moment.

Fun (or sad) fact: This scene was inspired by a real event, when an Apache leader who escaped the US Army for five years and was the last renegade indian band to surrender in the US Indian Genocide. He was being pursued and became trapped. His only escape was to jump off a cliff into a river below. On horseback, he took this route. As he went off the edge of the cliff, he yelled his name, "Geronimo." Surprisingly he and his horse survived the fall, but was later captured and died in prison. I loved this movie. My takeaway was that in some instance, being momentarily brave isn’t enough. Jaguar Paw had to be intensely and fiercely without fear repeats and relentlessly, to get back to and protect/save all that mattered to him. Not for power, not for riches, but to save his family. This really is a gold standard in filming. Great actors, great story… Folks bust on Gibson for the artistic licenses he takes with history, but this is just a great, great movie.

If I wanted to tell a WW2 story that isn't a true story, I could still write an environment that is realistic to the time and setting. Thats what I mean, it doesn't have to be a true story for the background stuff to be accurate and realistic for the time period, essentially what I'm talking about is a period piece. I'm not dissing the movie, in fact its one of my favorite ones. If Mel Gibson wasn't going for historical accuracy with the setting, not the story itself but the background information, thats fine. But it's still inaccurate, nothing you say will change that 🤷‍♀️
