Apollo Brown & Ras Kass "Blasphemy"
produced by Apollo Brown
directed by Jay Brown;
After FX: Paul Mihailoff
Production Assistant: Sam McKenna
Executive Producers: Michael Tolle
From the album Apollo Brown & Ras Kass "Blasphemy"
apollobrown360.bandcamp.com/a...
About the album "Blasphemy"
Blasphemy, the collaborative album from esteemed Mello Music Group producer Apollo Brown and Ras Kass, is a thought-provoking and highly personal treatise on the unspoken. The sub-rattling and operatic opener “How to Kill God,” a scathing indictment of major religions and the transgressions enacted in their name, serves as a statement of purpose. No “ism” is out of bounds, no topic too untoward. Whatever you hold sacred isn’t above aggressive inquiry.
Behind the boards, Apollo Brown orchestrates with divine aural vision. ThoughBlasphemy is his first album with a west coast rapper, he doesn’t retread g-funk synth grooves. He also forgoes the minimal, rubbery bounce popular with the current crop of west coast talent. Amidst a sea of production crafted for the drug-addled turn up, his work is a life preserver, saving ardent hip-hop fans with hard-hitting beats made buoyant by donuts of soul and blues. On his deftly layered suites, drums hit with the force of an unabridged Bible to the dome, the samples masterfully selected and utilized. WithBlasphemy, Brown has created MPC gospel, sonic scripture.
In his seminal memoir Soul on Ice, Eldridge Cleaver wrote, “All the gods are dead except the god of war.” Ever since Ras Kass titled his 1996 opening salvo after Cleaver’s book, the critically revered Carson, CA rapper has waged verbal warfare against all those with aims of obscuring the truth. Rappers, preachers, politicians - none have been spared from the wrath of his sharp, illuminating rhymes.
When not eviscerating MCs and poking holes in theologies, Ras Kass surrounds himself with a rogue’s gallery of decorated veterans. Pharoahe Monch, Rakaa Iriscience, Xzibit, and Royce Da 5’9” are among the handful of the elite lyricists present. Each delivers their singular bars in top form, making the songs on which they appear some of the best posse cuts you’ll hear in 2014.
Above all, this album displays Apollo Brown & Ras Kass’ undeniable synergy. Their sacred writ is the same, their blasphemy for those who want to think as they nod to the rhythm. When Ras Kass crucifies supposed facts over Apollo’s beats, it’s clear he is the West Coast’s preeminent philosopher. When Apollo’s blaring suites soothe your soul, it’s an ontological fact that he ranks among the best producers in the game. WithBlasphemy, the duo has delivered the truth.

K-Rino , Diabolic & Ras Kass have made some of the best lyrical tracks ever. Just in the last 5 years. Apollo Brown is an incredible producer. This album was very slept on. Ras Kass's lyrics always go above the heads of mainstream listeners. This track was the best one on the album. 'Bolic & K-Rino need to sign on to make albums with Apollo Brown. So does Chino XL , Ill Bill, Vinnie Paz, R.A. The Rugged Man & Canibus . One Be Lo of Binary Star needs to make an album with Apollo . That would be mind bowing. Or a Binary Star album produced by him . Wise Intelligent & Del The Funkee Homosapien should make albums with him , too.

+MrCoughupalung You realize that K-Rino predates Ras Kass as an artist by 10 years . Also that Ras Kass has bitten / copied K-Rino's themes , concepts and even some of his bars . And that K-Rino is lyrically a better rapper than Ras Kass. Ras Kass is dope. He is in my top 10 . But Razzy can't touch K-Rino lycially .

I agreed to most of what you said with your comment about who needs to work with Apollo, but this is where I oppose. I fuck with K-Rino a lot. He's lyrically vicious and deep. However, Ras is a few leagues ahead of him. Not even just Ras; you can throw Pharaohe Monch, Canibus and maybe even Killah Priest ahead of Rino. And I can tell you now that Ras did not bite from Rino at all.

Apollo brings HipHop to a new Level like DJ Premier in tha 90's. I love every Track from him! He is for me the best example what true Hip Hop means. His beats make me thoughtful and I do not mean that negatively.His tracks have so much love and feeling! He gaves me in bad times so much power through his Music! I saw him live last weekend in Switzerland Basel with his group Ugly Heroes, and the concert was soooo sick! I really hear a very long time Hip Hop Music and there were many good artists there like DJ Premier, Pete Rock or DJ Muggs,but no one give me the vibe and the feeling like Apollo Brown .He is for me the sickest Producer in the Biz! Like Primo says: y'all muthafuckas really don't know what this hip-hop is all about, so while you keep'on fakin' tha funk, we gonna keep on walkin' through the darkness caring our torches, Underground will live forever, baby, we just like roaches, never dyin' always livin', n' on that note let's get back to tha program!
