Good info but what about escooters in bike trails? i seen signs say no motorized vehicles? but still see escooters, ebikes and even one wheel riding in paved bike trails

Im in los angeles, and you are correct. A standard class C license or class C driver's permit is required when riding in the street. The speed limit is 35Mph max when riding but the law is not enforced, however i do 100% agree that no scooters over the speed limit of 10Mph should be ridden on the sidewalk. My 12 year old son and i wear fullface helmets and other safety gear like knee and shin guards, elbow and wrist guards, and Slip proof gloves. I will be buying my boy an Apollo Go for his 13th birthday.

NYC will witness the wrath of the new Apollo Go! I never leave my apartment without a helmet that equips a headlight and 2 tail-lights and I also wear quick-release knee pads! I always ride on the street and occassionally on the sidewalk if the road is completely blocked. The Go's narrower handlebars make it extremely easy to swerve through cars and to carry through the subway system compared to the City or the Air!

63 year old who rides with a full face helmet, knee pads and gloves, of course when stopped by Police here in NYC I tell them that my Phantom and City, both dual motors are only 750w max with a top speed of 20mph.

That is a first for me...the enforcement here is pretty rare and I see wrong way e-bike riders all the time and not once have I saw them being stopped by police. The Phantom or the City looks big and powerful which is why you were stopped but with the Go, you won't get that issue at all and you can much easier swerve through car traffic with the narrower handlebars!

Great to give some awareness. But So ridiculous having different laws in various local areas no matter what country. Rules for each state in the US case for example would be better and easier. Check for law updates wherever you go does not sound fun which is the whole point. Any way to make going green and commuting cheaply harder! In Europe most countries it’s pretty much a 15mph limit and 500 watt restrictions on power etc meaning most brands line up of scooters is technically illegal. Though spare a thought for us in the UK where All privately owned scooters are still illegal unless used on private land or through the scooter rental companies, currently allowed as part of a government trial that’s been extended again until 2026 to get “more data” taking us to over 5 years trial period 🤦🏽

It all revolves around M O N E Y ... They want to be able to make you pay. Whether it's a traffic ticket, a required license, or failure to wear a helmet, etc. It's all related to how they can make money from you.

You have to be 16 when riding an e-scooter? So dumb. I started riding dirtbikes when I was 6. There's a huge difference in riding skill from those who started young vs those who did not start until they were adults and quite frankly, it's dangerous for adults to start riding for the first time, its not as a kid. Its the same as anything else, try teaching an adult how to play the violin for the first time, usually the window to start to be professional is when they're 3. We're forcing people to wait until their adults on something that actually has consequences seems backwards. My daughter is 5 and whips on her kick scooter, and can ride over 10mph without issue and knows the rules of the road in the city. Also, this stifles innovation in transportation, imaging if regulators coddled us when automobiles first came out, cars would have a max speed of 15mph.
