My notes: APOSTLE AROME OSAYI #11 1. The Believer as a Pilgrim and Stranger on Earth Living as Pilgrims: Apostle Osayi opens with a powerful reminder that believers are pilgrims on earth, living here as temporary residents and strangers, awaiting a heavenly homeland. Scripture Reference: Hebrews 11:13-16 - The patriarchs of faith “died in faith, not having received the promises but having seen them afar off," confessing they were strangers and pilgrims. Faith and Eternal Vision: True faith enables believers to see beyond the present and focus on eternal promises, finding rest in God’s assurances. Prayer: That God would grant us “eyes to see beyond time,” fixing our hope on the things of God. 2. Spiritual Vision: Seeing Beyond the Present Age Living with a Heavenly Focus: Through the Holy Spirit, we gain the ability to look beyond the temporal, setting our sights on things above. Scripture Reference: Colossians 3:1-2 - “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” Freedom from Temporal Bondage: By setting our affections on God’s kingdom, we detach ourselves from the constraints and distractions of this world. Apostle Osayi encourages believers to seek the vision that frees us from bondage to the “trivial and temporal.” Heavenly Nation with True Foundations: Our ultimate goal is not earthly success but the kingdom of God, which has unshakeable foundations. Scripture Reference: Hebrews 11:10 - Abraham looked forward to the city “whose architect and builder is God.” 3. The Discipline of Abstinence and Focus Abstinence from Worldly Distractions: Just as a pilgrim avoids excess baggage, believers must practice abstinence from worldly distractions and indulgences that weaken spiritual focus. Examples of Abstinence: Reducing time on social media, entertainment, and unnecessary engagements, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Netflix. Cultivating Spiritual Habits: Apostle Osayi emphasises the importance of regular spiritual disciplines-prayer, fasting, worship-as critical to remaining spiritually alert. Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 - Like an athlete training for a race, believers should exercise self-control, aiming to win an incorruptible crown. Purposeful Exercise of Faith: Faithful prayer, worship, and fasting are not optional but essential, ensuring that we are not disqualified in this spiritual marathon. 4. Running the Race: The Christian Marathon A Marathon, Not a Sprint: The Christian race is a long-distance journey that requires patience, perseverance, and discipline, with consistent focus on Jesus. Scripture Reference: Hebrews 12:1-2 - “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus.” Daily Communion with Christ: Faithfulness in this race is marked by daily engagement with Jesus, who is our source of strength and endurance. The daily requirement of grace, mercy, and strength is essential for staying on course. Laying Aside Every Weight: Just as athletes avoid carrying extra burdens, we must remove anything-whether relationships, habits, or ambitions-that hinders our journey. Scripture Reference: Hebrews 12:1 - We must “lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us.” 5. Running with the Goal of Eternal Reward Running According to God’s Rules: Apostle Osayi highlights the importance of running according to God’s standards, not worldly measures of success. Scripture Reference: 2 Timothy 2:5 - “If anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.” The Mindset of Non-Attainment: Like Apostle Paul, we must keep a sense of non-attainment, pressing forward and avoiding the trap of self-satisfaction or complacency. Scripture Reference: Philippians 3:12-14 - “Not that I have already attained…but I press on.” Humility in the Journey: Celebrating earthly accomplishments (financial, ministerial, or otherwise) can lead to complacency. Instead, Apostle Osayi urges us to stay humble, focused, and vigilant. 6. The Role of Love in Sustaining the Race The Motivation of Love: Just as Peter was reminded by Jesus of his love commitment (John 21:15-19), believers must regularly examine their love for God as the sustaining force behind their race. When love for God is rekindled, it fuels our perseverance despite difficulties. Scripture Reference: John 21:15-19 - Jesus calls Peter to feed His sheep, reigniting Peter’s commitment and love. Warning Against Mechanical Faith: Apostle Osayi warns of faith becoming routine or mechanical, urging us to keep our hearts genuinely devoted to God. 7. Engaging in Spiritual Warfare Along the Way Running and Fighting: This race includes spiritual warfare-overcoming trials, opposition, and challenges that arise to deter us from our heavenly pursuit. Scripture Reference: 2 Timothy 4:7 - Paul’s testimony of having fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith reflects the need for endurance under pressure. Keeping Faith Despite Trials: Apostle Osayi reminds us that setbacks, losses, and trials are common, yet believers are called to persevere without casting away their confidence. Scripture Reference: Hebrews 10:35 - “Do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.” 8. Daily Dependence and Spiritual Accountability Daily Spiritual Discipline: Consistent communion with God is vital. Setting aside time each day for prayer, reflection, and renewing our focus keeps us in the race. Absence from the prayer room or daily disciplines often signifies that a believer has drifted from the race. Avoiding the Weights of Compromising Relationships: Connections that compromise faith or bring a heavy spiritual burden can hinder our walk. Apostle Osayi urges believers to courageously sever ties with compromising influences to stay spiritually aligned. My Key Takeaways Live as Pilgrims: We are strangers and pilgrims on this earth, and our true home is the kingdom of God. We must avoid becoming too comfortable or attached to earthly pleasures. Abstinence is Essential: Abstaining from worldly distractions-social media, entertainment, relationships that do not align with our faith-keeps us spiritually focused and ready. The Race Requires Endurance: The Christian journey is a marathon requiring daily dependence on Jesus, laying aside weights, and remaining steadfast through trials. Running According to God’s Rules: Success in the race is not measured by earthly achievements but by obedience to God’s standards. Humility and a mindset of non-attainment keep us pressing forward. Love is Our Motivation: Genuine love for God sustains our commitment, making the journey meaningful. Without love, faith becomes mechanical and loses its power. Spiritual Warfare is Part of the Race: The journey is not easy, and believers must engage in spiritual warfare, keeping faith despite opposition or trials. Daily Communion with God: Consistency in prayer, fasting, and spiritual exercise is vital, ensuring that we have the strength needed for each day.

"Drop the weights" and "Cast not away your confidence". Now I understand, thank you Jesus for not letting me submit to "faith failure". I remember a voice telling me a few months back to renounce God and declare I hate Him, bu t I refused to let that voice convince me using my poor circumstances and personal failures. Thank you Jesus for your daily grace (my daily bread).
